I'm about to want fries with that.

I’m Still Here…. (read with resolution, not sadness)

Well, my CAMP CD came in the mail. I know it’s a stereotype but I love Broadway stuff. I totally can’t sit still when playing it. It’s good stuff.

The image “http://static.flickr.com/53/154601828_b154c62b4e.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

So hmm, I officially hate job fairs. I really do. I always get the same crap. “Oh wow! You have everything! We will definitely call you.” Ok so that’s it. You don’t really get a job at a job fair. In fact, mostly anything you can do there you can do online! I can email a resume and references from the comfort of my living room. I didn’t really need to drive 20 miles or even the 200 miles to Houston.

This one today was a little better than the Houston one. The first person I ran into is the director of Special Ed.  She wrote down a few schools I should check out and then took me to two different schools’ booths and totally cut in line with me to grab the principal. She took the principal aside, did a little huddle with her and they both kept looking over at me impressedly (not a word). Then I, to the dismay and offense of the long line of prospective employees, was whisked away for a long interview which mirrored fear factor.

“What would you do about a kid who has behavior issues before school starts?”

“We do a program called ‘late nights.’ For those kids who need extra time practicing social skills. Sometimes out teachers need to stay until 10 or 11 at night. What do you think about that?” Sounds like an ISS program (in school suspension) that has gone awfully awry. I am also way too qualified to do ISS (sit and read my paper while yelling at kids) (Not nearly as fun as it sounds.).

I said I wasn’t sure and had never heard of such a program.

What I wanted to do was say that this kid needs a consistent environment at home and a continuous environment where we are in close contact with the parents… but what she was proposing sounds ummm nightmarish. That lead me to think, is she serious or is this a test to see how involved I will be? I don’t mind meeting with parents to establish behavior guidelines for school and home, but if the kid is at school for 20 hours in one day… how are we preparing him or her for the world and community?

It doesn’t sound like something that should be done… I also think it would drive me crazy. It also sounds like behavior is out of control at that school. Trust… red flags were popping up like a Chinese Mao-day parade.

So but I did have some good interviews and set up future interviews for schools that “Are  VERY interested in me and blah blah blah.” I dunno. I just expected to walk in there, hand out my resume and sign a contract. I am going to chill out this week and if I don’t find  anything serious then maybe I should look at Barnes & Noble. I’m really not sure I want to teach anymore. Is that bad?

I dunno, I did have one very cool school interested in me and they said they would call or email for an interview at the school. That sounds good, but again, couldn’t this have all been done through email? Why do districts waste time putting these job fairs on??

let's stay away from "late nights"...teachers who don't get an evening of rest are not fit to teach during the day. or was she proposing you only work nights? weird, weird, weird. i don't like places that try to micromanage their employees. still, i understand the questions - they have a hard time keeping teachers who are able to deal with behaviors!
