Combien étrange est notre Dieu

Well, it’s officially the end of Thursday. So the other school I interviewed at has officially missed the boat. I already accepted the other school’s offer anyways, but it’s just so oddly God at this point. I had, and felt, tons of people praying this:

Give Tim the job he’s supposed to have and shut all other doors.

The image “http://www.carolroedastudio.com/ccp51/media/images/product_category/eye_on_With_Blk_bdr_sm.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

That’s exactly what happened. I applied for and/or interviewed with five major school districts. Districts that regularly employ uncertified special ed teachers because they can’t find certified ones to fill vacancies. I got no calls or offers from any of them. I got little good feelings here and there, but now I can really truly say that this is where God wants me to be. This is where I am supposed to be. This is exactly what Apocatim is all about.

Does that mean everything will go perfectly and wonderfully next year? Nope! If there’s one thing anyone who has wrestled with the big man knows well it’s that this journey isn’t easy. Those songs and verses about shady green pastures, still waters, happy trails? They’re not anywhere near my reality. Maybe I need it that way. I am quite the stubborn chap and I have grand plans. I want things my way but when I pray “thy will be done,” it’s usually not the path I would have chosen.

“But you lead me through a world that’s not my home.” –Ginny Owens

It is quite a strange world and the doors I am pushed through often lead to things I never would have attempted or planned on, but they always work out to save me from true despair. I know this and God always shows it to me once I’ve made it through.

This was the case in me becoming a special ed teacher. If I had stayed a bilingual teacher and worked with TAKS kids this year, I know for certain that this principal would have ruined my record and forced me out. I know this because I have watched him do it time and time again to perfectly good teachers.

For some reason, most likely that special ed kids don’t count or matter to this district, this little angel of death sees the blood on my classroom door and passes over. I get a wink and a nod instead of an evil scheme and ruthless plot.

I love this image

Today, for example, I saw the tech teacher semi-freaking out about all the stuff he wants her to do. I took one of her projects, to create a simple application for becoming a model technology classroom (some new district pilot program). I made the cutest and coolest little one page application, took it into the principal for approval, and then made copies and passed them out to all the teachers by today’s deadline.

When I gave it to the principal I got an impressed look, a “well thank you, I really appreciate this,” and a smile. The smile said, “Why are you doing this when you’re leaving?” People like that aren’t used to someone doing something just because it helps out someone else. Those people are used to people doing things with hidden motives. Maybe he “figured” out my hidden motive and rationalized it away. Whatever the case, I got another wink and nod and I’m four days from not having to deal with him again. That’s a good feeling.

That's great about your prayer! You're going to be a blessing wherever you go, Tim.
