| | School starts tomorrow. I just got a bunch of teacher stuff out of storage yesterday so I'll spend this week decorating my classroom. I have it ready for the kids, but I like to go supernutty creating a unique and enjoyable room.
So I am planning to move to my own apartment in three to four weeks. Great but I haven't found where I want to live. Well ok I did find where I want to live but I don't want to pay over 700 for it.
I'm finding that the Houston rental market really is pretty comparable to Austin which is ok since I will make a lot more here and can afford something nice.
I found these apartments that are built next to the new Cinco Ranch town center or "Centerra" (click for link).
I know it's super cheesy when they make fake downtowns on the edges of suburbia. This one isn't quite as fake as Sugar Land's town center which features a newly built "historic" city hall. The one in Cinco Ranch has a few fake historical buildings, but it's really a nice walkable shopping area around a lake.
I walked around it a little and pictured myself taking an evening walk with my ipod, stopping at Jamba Juice or Starbuck's or Smoothie King for something cold and window shopping then walking back to my apartment.
It's all so picturesque but I don't know how much those apartments cost and if they're over 800 then I won't do it....probably
Sugar Land's fake city hall I know it's not the most liberal of places but I like Texas Suburbia. I'm finding Houston a little scarier than before I left. Maybe it's the growth of the hood (not just Katrina evacuees), or maybe I've just been in an Austin bubble for too long. All I know is I would be an hour from downtown Houston and two hours from downtown Austin... where to party? :)
