Well been cruising the Xanga net and found out from Miss Becky's site that I have been voted one of the best newcomers? Really?
Well, I am in shock...doesn't ever look like anyone reads me except me Well thank you whomever you are!
I got thinking about the strangest thing....merry go rounds.
I used to love merry go rounds. The spinning, the up and the down motions that made my heart leap and me giggle. I even loved the colored jewels that covered these loud, creaking machines. I love how the sunlight would hit them and they would sparkle as if they were real. And I believed that they were.
But time passed and I, as we all do, grew up and grew old. Merry go rounds became part of my past; my history. It was a distant memory like a third or fourth cousin at a family reunion. The merry go rounds in my head became rusted and covered with cob webs of nostalgia.
I was really reintroduced to my past adulation of these graceful beasts through my daughter, who was just discovering them for herself. To Alyssa, they are the brave steed that will carry her away to her Prince Charming. She caresses, coos and babies the iron clad beauties. When she is on these animals(never in the carriage mind you) she is Cinderella, Snow White and Rapunzel rolled up into one. Everywhere you turn is a castle and those jewels sparkle just as brightly as when I was once a child. Those mirrors only emit visions of knights and damsels. Never once do they show middle aged people clinging desperately to the metal contraption in fear of your baby falling to assured death or, even worse, passing out due to your own dizziness and thus embarrassing not only yourself but the smallest member of royalty that adores you for a small moment that she has been allowed to ride on that spinning vertigo creator.
Yes, I have been enlightened to the mysteries of the merry go round. Our entire lives as women are entwined in this metal marvel. Are we not always in search for that perfect Prince upon his white steed be it a metal horse or a 2 door coupe? Do we not yearn for the days of being rescued from the dreariness that everyday life continues to assault us with thus making us all damsels in distress?
So let the young ones live in their fantasies if only for awhile, because it gives us a chance to relive ours if just for one brief shining moment in the sun.
