Well the weekend is over and yes I'm glad. But to the normal weekday routine for me.

SATURDAY

This was supposed to be the day of Alyssa's 'pool' birthday party. A total of 8 girls and 2 boys were invited. Result: It rained...scratch that...it POURED. And all day long at that! It began 1/2 hour before the party. Only two girls showed up. We let them go on the carport and douse each other with water balloons(parting gifts were a type of water balloon slingshot that the Dollar Store now sells). Everything went well with the exception that I didn't have a backup plan and was scurrying around attempting to find things for the girls to do. One girl was supposed to be spending the night but she decided at the last moment to break and run for it. I think it was the old adage about not wanting to sleep in a strange house/strange bed sort of thing. But the problem was that she didn't tell Alyssa so we had hysterical tears until about 11 o'clock when she feel asleep. The little girl still hasn't called.

SUNDAY

I had to work the morning shift for another woman who promised her Grandma that she would take her to Dallas for some sort of church 'thang'. No problem. Except that I had to be there at 6a.m.  I was so tired from the ordeal the night before that I walked out of the house without my purse. No debit card or money to get breakfast, no DL, and none of the busy work that I had shoved into it. Luckily I had a few bucks in the pocket so I did get a stale but hot egg biscuit from QT convenience store and a newspaper. Luckily, working for a hospital, I get all the free coffee and hot tea I want.  And I did need it desperately. 

Then I had to drive back home, grab my purse and go back to Denton to put money down on the layaway of Alyssa's present. She is rather upset that she hasn't received her gift yet but freestanding basketball goals ain't cheap nor the size that I can just slip into the backseat of my Buick!

MONDAY

Can work be any more tedious, slow and downright boring than on Memorial Day?  I think I had a total of 20 calls for the entire 8 hour period as opposed to the 150-300 that I usually average on a normal weekday night. I even cleaned out the coffee maker and departmental frig...that's how boring it was.  I did get about 6 chapters of 'Circle of Stones' read and some writing done.  Something that I am not able to do when the phones are ringing off the hook, doctors need to be paged and idiot employees need the phones fixed because they just don't know why they won't work when you drop them numerous times on concrete floors!!
