| | PhotoPost: Crazy With My Camera
I've been going "crazy with my camera" for the past two or three days. Here are some examples of the photos I've been taking. Most will eventually find their way on my Webshots Gallery but right now I just got back from a "photo expedition" and just wanted to sample some of the photos on the web so chose the blog for a quick post. The Webshots folders will probably by titled "Friday Night Storm Clouds" and "Manhattan Beach Sunday" or something like that but for now these are exclusive to the Xanga blog, and if you happen to drop by, you're seeing 'em here first!!!! Clicking on the small images will open the larger, more attactive ones in another browser window.

The trees are cut back in winter prior to springtime, so they don't get too large and start cutting down the power lines. I took four or five shots of interesting trees. This one is about three blocks from where I live.

This is one of the strom clouds shots taken Friday night. I jumped in the car at sunset and drove speedily to the other side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula to get the sunset, but the cloud cover (which miraculously disappeared over Saturday WITHOUT shedding any rain) was too thick for the sun to shine through. You can only see "color" in the upper right hand side of the shot.

This and the shot below were taken at the botanical gardens at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach just about two hours ago. I read in the Daily Breeze, Torrance's local newspaper, at breakfast this morning that the gardens were in bloom early, thanks to all the rain. The gardens are somewhat anemic, with little to recommend them. (The South Coast Botanical Gardens are much grander, but they charge to get in, and I already took photos there last year. )

I like the perspecitve in this lilac shot. I "chose" the stalk in the camera which was going to be "in focus" and then took the shot. I love digital photography. It's almost too easy to get exactly what one is going for in the shot.

This one is from Friday night taken off the west coast of of the peninsula. I got there too late and the sun was already "down" somewhat but I did get a couple of "sunset" type shots, including this one, which has not been "enhanced" at all in any computer program.

This one has, however, with "glow" and "fill light" controls in the Picasa2 software, in order to show both the cloudscape and the ocean. The tree is the same on as in the tinted shot I used for my "Raining (in) Depression" poem. There are quite a few more shots of this tree which will be featured in the Webshots Gallery folder when I get it online.

I got a lot of shots of the Manhattan Beach pier today, and this is looking toward the town from the end of the pier. Manhattan Beach has had a "roundhouse" pier since the 20s, but I think it's been rebuilt a couple of times due to storms. I tried to snap a "wave" crashing against the pylons. Even though we just had a raft of storms, the water was relatively calm, and the weather was wonderful, almost summery.

Here is an experimental red tinted shot of the cloudscape off the coast on Friday night. I have not completed the final "composite" from over and underexposures of the same photo. Below is one of the early composites which shows the grass in overexposure.
