Yesterday, as i walked along Reed Street towards my Tuesday night
dinner locale, I was listening to my iPod. At first my lil white
music box-let was giving me nothing to work with and for fear of
someone seeing it and then beating the ever loving crap out of me, I
left it in my pocket and did not dare touch it to change the
song. Then Float On by Modest Mouse comes on and I am a big fan
so I bop along, mouthing the words as inconspicuously as possible,
I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off, sometimes life's okay.
I ran my mouth a bit too much oh what did i say?
Well you just laughed it off, it was all okay.
And we'll all float on, okay?
And we'll all float on, okay?
And we'll all float on, okay?
And we'll all float on, anyway.
So then a weird thing happened. I was approaching 7th st maybe
and there was a commotion: 2 cars blocking the traffic with a line of
cars down each street wanting to get thru. One had a dead battery
and the other was trying to jump it. So I walked by, mouthing the
chorus thinking, "this could be a video for this
song."
In a similar happenstance, I was walking to center city one
morning. It was just days after the snow storm and as I trudged thru,
a song I'd never heard came on my shuffle. This is not all that
unusual seeing as how I have 2 discs worth of MP3s from my brother of
mostly new stuff for me to digest. So the song. The
Fruit Bats. Lazy Eye. This song is a slow kind of lullaby, piano and vocals.
You are a diamond in the dirt
and you're the centipede who broke the camel's back.
You didn't think I'd get hurt.
love burns a circle in the snow.
You're frog eggs in the sky
that rain on the GWB
and the palisades.
Love turns tripe into gold.
Love burns a circle in the snow.
Hey, you there with the lazy eye.
Turn, turn into me.
Let me hear you say one more time.
You, you there with the lazy eye.
Love turns tripe into gold.
Love burns a circle in the snow.
It's like my iPod knows exactly what's going on in my environment/life
in general and creates an appropriate soundtrack. What a guy.
