Running Across America

I decided to publicize this so that all of you who know me can hold me accountable in keeping up a regular running schedule. Based on the program I am using, if I were to start running from San Francisco, you can see how far I have would have gotten to this point. Next stop... Reno, Nevada!

Birthday Eve

An interesting thing happened today at the school where I work on the eve of another birthday in my life...

The new director of guidance, Noel Gordon, wanted to know the code to unlock the faculty restroom. He saw me in the hallway and asked me if I was a student or staff. I told him I was staff. Later at today's faculty meeting, he apologized for the confusion, saying that I had a very "youthful look." I certainly don't feel as "youthful" these days, but I do thank God for giving me generally good health, good friends, and a great life.

BTW, if you live in Bergen County and you're in high school, come celebrate my birthday this Friday by joining me at Fuddruckers and at the new James Bond movie. Get the details here.

"New" States

How come we can call New Jersey "Jersey" for short but we can't call New York, New Hampshire, or New Mexico just "York," "Hampshire," or "Mexico" for short? You know what I mean? Like no one says, "I'm from Hampshire" or "I'm going to York." People always say, "I'm from NEW Hampshire" or "I'm going to NEW York." But we New Jerseyans CAN say, "I'm from Jersey." Just an observation. (I understand the Mexico one... that would be confusing if someone said "I'm from Mexico" but meant New Mexico.)

Class of 2009

This past year we graduated our first senior class from Asian Young Life. I was pretty close to a lot of the people in our graduating class, so I was sad to see them leave...

But life goes on, and fortunately we have an awesome group of sophomores who are beginning to take their place in Asian Young Life. (In fact, the sophomores from Cresskill HS now make up the largest group in AYL.) Yesterday I had the chance to spend time with the really cool sophomores from the Academies@Englewood. In honor of Yeats' birthday, we spent the half day (for Back-to-School Night) going out to eat and then hanging out at one of my favorite places: the Apple Store. Yeats' mom let me drive her really nice Lexus SUV. (I love "Sheila" and the reverse drive cam!)

To all of the sophomores who make up the Class of 2009... Hear hear! We're so glad to have you in AYL and look forward to many more great experiences yet to come!

New YL Website

Young Life (the parent organization of Asian Young Life) has a brand new, spiffy website.

Check it out at younglife.org. And while you're there, be sure to visit the new "Young Life College" website (Watch out InterVarsity and Campus Crusade!)... and look who's featured on the website... me, Gerald, Tony Lin, and the rest of ASIAN YOUNG LIFE!!!

Have fun! There are a ton of links to check out.
