Review: NCA Coffee House

On a gentle Sunday evening of this past weekend, a small group gathered to share some food, bid on some Silent Auction items, and to hear music from several talented performers.  For those who were able to attend, it was an enjoyable evening.

The evening began with a couple of opening acts: some guy with a big head and a few songs (cheered on by his wife and their beautiful daughter Sophia), and then the supremely talented Mike Yoo sharing a couple of songs with keyboard.  Mike has been blessed with God-given talents evident when he runs his hands across the keys (as well as when he opens up medical school textbooks).  After Mike, the Fu brothers, Jacob and Joshua, shared a set of originals and covers of various tunes from places as far away as Scandanavia.  The two were in harmony on guitar as well as vocals, showing that they are brothers not only in blood but also in heart for music and for the Lord.  Finally, Stan Sonu shared music ranging from his high school compositions to his current projects, all of which demonstrated the talent and passion God has given him for music, for people, and for the Lord.  One of his last numbers was about a girl from his past, which begs the question: is there a girl in his present?  Just kidding.  Maybe.  As I sat there listening to the final song, I felt it poetic and just that both the first song of the night and the last song of the night contained the line: "It's all about you, Jesus" (Jesus, Lover of My Soul and The Heart of Worship).  Amen.

The coffee was (really) good and the desserts and snacks were sweet!  Thanks to all who contributed to and particpated in the Silent Auction.  We raised a nice sum for missions and hope that you were all blessed.  I and others commented that we are looking forward to the next time we have a Coffee House, whether at NCA or elsewhere.  God has blessed so many with talent to share, as well as the love which binds us all together in His name.
