sometimes this old town feels like a long-lost friend

staying at the commune today to work on the Morphology exam; it's going all right.  I'm eating fresh steamed greens from the garden back in Gainesville-- the roommates here ain't fond of vegetables but tell you what of all the great food I've had this week, my very own collards & mustards & radishes take the cake.  A little salt, a little pepper, a little Tabasco-- perfect!  There simply ain't nothing like food you've yanked out of the ground with your own two hands.  I need to plant more radishes.

Laundered at the old lavanderia earlier today; it's all the same.  $0.25 for the drier as opposed to the dollar it costs in Gainesville.  Only thing in the world cheaper in California than in the South.  Outside the bottlebrush-trees have bright red bristles and the pavement smells vaguely of sundried shit.  A hawker convinced me to buy a Virgen de Guadalupe pendant; that dear lady watched over me daily all last year, as she protects all of Lennox, East LA, and beyond.

buddha buddha, what on earth are you doing back in this tired town?  and why on earth is it tugging at your heart?  why does the roar of descending planes, in disharmony with the scream of police sirens, sing to you: stay, sir, stay!  ?

On Sunday I return home.

My mom likes to make/eat greens, but I can never get them down.  I think it is the smell I don't like.

It's spring break, my dear. And everyone goes to the hood on spring break. I mean, where else would I go? Daytona?-- too close!

I like vegetables, just not the same types.

(I chowed down on vegan Indian food today with gusto, I love carrots and tomatoes, and I can make a mean salad. I'm getting quite an affinity for onion as well.)
