| | a routine for the semester is establishing itself. I arrive on
campus typically between eight and nine AM; depart after six. The
Mighty Schwinn is serving me mightily well. Although I live
farther from campus this semester than last, the ride feels quicker.
This may be because most of the ride is down an avenue with a wide wide
bike path, rather than in the margins of fast crowded 13th street as
was last semester's commute.
Life in the shotgun is a delight (though I'm not totally unpacked
yet). The air-conditioning is weak, so I often eat meals outside
on the front porch, which is also where I sit evenings and read.
The neighborhood is green and small. A geodisic dome is being
built two houses down.
There is very very very little commerce in Southeast Gainesville.
Two jiffy marts within five or so blocks, and that's it. I'm only
about ten blocks from downtown, which is quite bustling, but southeast
Gainesville has not much at all in the way of fast food, supermarkets,
restaurants, or really business of any kind. Even the nearest
laundromat is a considerable drive away.
Which makes for a very peaceful, laid-back neighborhood. I like it.
And the backyard garden will hopefully come into existence over the long weekend. Harrass me to get it started!
