| | I've been procrastinating this morning by studying the Sample Ballot and referring to the League of Women Voters, Project Vote Smart, and candidates' websites. Thank heavens for the League of Women Voters.
So far:
decided how to vote on the constitutional amendments (in favor of making it harder to amend the constitution; against all other amendments)
decided to retain all the Supreme Court Justices
picked a governor
eliminated a few US Senate candidates
Yet to choose:
US Senator
Attorney General
Chief Financial Officer
Commissioner of Agriculture
State Senator
State Representative
Sheriff
This be tough; in general I like old Jeb but not his policies. That is to say, he's a good governor from a bad camp. So while he'll go down in my 'list of governors I'm glad Florida had,' I don't particularly want to prolong Republican control of Florida's administration & legislature. And Alachua County/ City of Gainesville is pretty firmly under the Democrats' thumb. Which is a mixed blessing-- on my side of town that means the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist sort of Democrat, of whom I'm quite fond. But they're quite dominated by the snooty yuppie blindered Yankee Democrats who are just as bad as, if not worse than, the (Jeb) Bush Republicans. And most of the old rural Southern Democrat politicians have long since defected to the Bush Republicans, leaving our county's Florida Crackers pretty much without representation.
One week left to decide.
*edit* I'd been trying to figure why there's no slot on the ballot for US Representative. Turns out I live in the state's most gerrymandered district-- composed of the Black ghettoes of Gainesville, Jacksonville, DeLand, Palatka, and Orlando plus a lot of countryside in between. So the Republicans basically have a deal-- they won't field a candidate for Florida's 3rd, and in return Florida's Blacks outside the 3rd are totally disenfranchised (as are all the Crackers in the 3rd's rural areas). One more reason to register Democrat and enfranchise myself.
*edit* Here's The Fightin' 3rd:
