rayun purita

Because I've been assigned to write an abstract on a thesis about the Yatiri  among Bolivia's Aymara, figured I might as well write that abstract in the form of a wikipedia entry.  You can find it here: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yatiri>

If you're wondering about the ideological orientation the abstract tends to take (for example the consistent use of 'she' as opposed to 'they' or 'he or she' or any of the such), that's because the professor is a consistent and an insistent ideologue and demands that all papers for her class be written in such a way.

Building the wikipedia entry was a great idea.

Interesting - can a professor accuse you of plagerism if she sees that the wikipedia entry and your abstract are close to identical?  How would you defend yourself in that situation?  Would it be simple to prove that it was your wiki account, and would all professors consider that good enough?

p.s. - the pronoun thing is weird.  I have never, ever had a professor demand specific rules for personal pronouns, other than those typically associated with proper English.  I'm thinking of changing a bunch of them on your wiki entry, just to make a statement. :P

dankster-- that plagiarism-thing had never occurred to me. It'd be easy to demonstrate, though, that I'm the author.

go right ahead and change them pronouns. change them all to "HE (women' excludeed)"

i love that part about initiation by lightning.  It seems so *obvious* somehow.  Like if i didn't have all this western science pounded into my head, (self-pounded) every day, it would not occur to me to doubt that someone struck by lightning would granted special abilities.

Very cool that you wrote a wiki entry.  you're the only person i know that's written an entry.  (how many have you written anyway?)

that's the first substantial entry i've written from scratch. I've started a few stubs that others have expanded, and I've expanded a few stubs started by others.
