| guess who ate her whole meal with chopsticks tonight! yes, that would be me. i am quite proud of myself considering i can barely function using chopsticks, but i managed to eat my vegetables and noodles in an almost timely manner. so no worries, i did not starve. of course, i couldn't hold a candle to chia-ling, who kicked my sorry little butt with her chopstick skills. i am still proud though, i consider it practice for when i go to hong kong! i have some even more exciting news than that, however (if you can believe it!): bill nye the science guy is going to be on my campus on tuesday!! and i am going to see him and get a free reusable shopping bag!! i think that's so awesome- it might be the best day ever!! (please ignore the fact that i have a best day ever approximately once a week) |

| tonight we went out to this bar, which is rumored to be really awesome but was really just full of creepy old guys. the creepiness began when i walked in and these two old guys pointed and talked about me for the whole time i was paying my cover. and they didn't even try to hide it! then alison accidentally molested one of the band members at the bar, and the guy wouldn't let us forget it allllll night. every other song was dedicated to "my favorite booth in the middle." plus this dude that looked just like mac's criminal dad on sunny kept coming up to us and telling us to dance in front of him. it was just ridiculous. but my overall favorite quote of the night:
band singer: ahhh good song. although maybe we need more eastern pennsylvania flavor in that song, less western.
random drunk guy: YEAH! i love girls from eastern PA!! they're so easy!!

| so i've been driving around for about three weeks with a headlight out, without incident. (i'm too lazy and cheap to take it to the store) then today i bought a new one for my dad to install tomorrow... and guess who got pulled over tonight?! weird luck. but luckily i explained that as of tomorrow it would be fixed, and the guy was nice and let me off with a warning. phew! |

| you know, i may not always *love* grad school, but it's really nice to be surrounded by people who get all hot and bothered about the same things i do. i love being able to get excited about certain words, sentence structures or languages and not having to follow it up with "yeah, i'm a big nerd" when i get a bewildered stare. it's pretty cool. |
