Three great guys going on summer mission projects
Two of my Xanga friends, Joel (ZerosRequiem) and Justin (JoHoDonKnow), are both going on summer missions projects. And my 8th-grade son is going to Nashville on his first summer missions trip.
Joel is going to Wilmington, North Carolina on a Leadership Training project for his second summer through an organization giving college students the opportunity to live in community and learn about sharing their faith through living it out, whether it be in the workplace, on the street, or with each other. Justin is going to China for several weeks to teach English to Chinese students, work with orphans and do some one-on-one relationship building, all with the intent of sharing His love. And my son is going to Nashville to experience a missions trip for the first time, where he will help with the homeless at shelters and soup kitchens, visit senior citizens, work with inner-city kids, etc. He just wrote and sent out his first support letter to some immediate family and friends. This is a big step for an eighth grader and I'm really proud of him.
I have always loved to support misisonaries, especially young people venturing out on short-term projects to find out what God has planned for them. I've been reading Justin's and Joel's blogs for over a year and find them to be two exceptional individuals who have the potential to do great things for the Kingdom and touch many lives in the process. I have yet to meet either of them in person, but I hope to some day. Nevertheless, I have committed to support them in prayer this summer, and I can't wait to read about the experiences they have and the ways in which they will be molded through their experience. Likewise with my son. It will be a quick seven day trip for him, but already the training and preparation that they are starting to do is influencing how he thinks and acts.
I always wish I had more to give financially, but prayer is most important, and that I can do freely. So I'm praying for Joel and Justin and my son specifically this summer, just as I first learned to do for a college classmate many years ago who went to India on an InterVarsity mission project. Find someone that you would like to support this summer and let them know you will be praying for them, and give as you are able.

I remember going on mission trips with my youth group back in the day. I always loved them and learned a lot. It's good stuff.
