the letter to Dr devitt for the show idea. Reds and blues, like a cnn crossfire or foxNews hannity and colmes type show
Dear Dr Devitt,
Steve Sweder and I have an idea for a possible political analysis/news show for this year. The show would include a students perspective from both sides of the political spectrum. On the show Steve would be the conservative and I, Chip Murphy, would be the democrat. Basically we would debate current news topics such Cindy Sheehan camping out at the Western White House. It would truly be a "fair and balanced" as compared to another two person show..... We could also have periodic "news flashes" of late breaking national/local events. The show would utilize our new tv studio and students from WTHS.
Local government can also be analyzed.. Candidates in local elections in the Warminster, Ivyland, Southampton areas can also be put on so they can debate each other. An incentive for them participating would be showing that they are willing to be active in the community and also get their viewpoints spread across the areas that count.
Another point to discuss in the show would be school issues. A MAJOR issue that would be discussed is the deletion of block scheduling, which both of us agree is wrong. As known people in the community we could "guest appear" at a school board meeting and discuss with them one on one why they are doing it. This show could also allow be a medium for the democrat and republican club squaring off using Steve and I as the moderators. Normal students would be a vital part of the show using their viewpoints given to us via email or appearing on the show.
This show could also show that teenagers care about their world and want to make a difference. This could allow us to display to the community our love for it. So by the CSD allowing us to use the studio and airwaves it would greatly benefit the community and school itself. Thank you for your time.

RESPONSE
Chip – this is a wonderful initiative (another in a long line of Murphy-projects). There are a few ways we can proceed. The easiest would be for you to approach Ms. Speiser and see if she would be willing to supervise as part of the TV production class. If that is a no go, you would need a faculty advisor and have the advisor submit a request for a WTHS club (much like sports talk). A third possibility would be to approach our new AV person (Dan Hoffman) and see is he would be willing to sponsor this activity as a club. Again, I am certain we can make this work, and it will be a good thing.
Give me a yell if I can be of further assistance.
Crap, so i need a sponser,a little help people? |
