When Your Dreams Fall Apart
The hardest time to learn about grief is while you are in the midst of it. I know this from experience. Grief can affect everything you do. It can disrupt every aspect of your life...even in ways you might not expect. But grief is not a sign of weakness. It's a sign of being a person. It's the cost of loving and losing someone.Sometimes you feel that it is useless to talk about your grief because you feel like no one else understands what you are going through or can feel the depth of your pain and words can't express that pain.
If you're like me and just lost a long-term boyfriend or fiance, you lost a whole bunch of stuff. You lost your companion, your encourager, your source of delight, the arms that comfort you, your best fried, etc. The list goes on and on. But God knows your deepest needs. He knows what you lost. And He will provide...but He also wants you to talk to Him...tell Him about all the things you lost and what you want to happen in the future. I promise - He's there - He'll listen.
Although countless people have experienced grief before, each person's path of grief is uniquely their own. But God knows you and isn't suprised by your responses. Even when your heart is breaking and tears are clouding your eyes and staining your cheeks, God says to keep trusting in Him...don't give up!
Psalm 31:24 - Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord. In Matthew 5:4 Jesus promises that those who mourn are blessed, and will be comforted.
If you've had dreams fall apart and want to be healed, I strongly recommend that you make a commitment right now to begin the grieving process. Take steps forward, even when you have to force yourself. Maybe you don't feel that you're ready to begin this journey - I know I'm not. But be encouraged - God loves you as you are and His love will change you. You are never beyond hope. There are millions of people in this word suffering just as you are. But there is always the hope of a better tomorrow. Remind yourself of that and, do yourself a favor...no matter how torn apart you are, take a quick split second to smile!
