Character...or Lack Thereof
"There is no religious test for office"
~ Giuliani ~
Forget that a presidential candidate belongs to a religion your don't believe in or a denomination you don't accept for a moment, please. The fact is, some presidential candidates may Christians. Some may be athiest. Some may be agnostic. Some may worship fireflies. Who knows!?!
Some presidential candidates are PROUD of their religion or lack thereof. They're bold, not shy! They're open, not secretive! They're courageous, not ashamed! Other candidates try to cover up thier religion and turn conversation to other issues.
To address Mr. Guiliani's comment here, religion may not be a necessary test for office, but asking questions about a candidates' religion and watching how he or she reacts is giving us a little glimps of their character! And, Mr. Guiliani, telling America that we have no right to ask candidates about their faith...and refusing to take a stand for your own faith gives us quite a look at your general character, or lack thereof!

There is a test of character. And his test just came in with an F.
What you believe defines you as an individual. I have no religion. Yet I will tell you I am a son of the Lord Jesus Christ. I don't believe there is a God. I know there is a God. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or a philosopher to figure the logic out there. I don't just believe in Jesus. I have put my trust in Him and rely in Him for everything that makes me tick. From my health to my success to my safety to my eternal soul. Every action I do, whether right or wrong, weather righteous or sinful, involves my God and His precepts.
When I do something wrong I am convicted by His Spirit before anyone or anything else. Even when I see no consequence. Even when no one realizes I did something sinful. He is there to correct me. And when I don't listen? He hounds me. Relentlessly. Beyond the extent of my own conscience. He relentlessly convicts until I repent.
What about when I do something right? Whether we like it or not lots of people don't like it when someone does something right. In fact, the whole saying "The whole world can't be wrong..." is the biggest joke of all time. The whole world hated Jesus and they crucified Him. The most innocent man to have ever lived. So when I make the right decision yet it is highly unpopular who do I have to encourage me? Jesus. And I'm going to listen to His praise all day long.
Chew on that Giuliani.
i agree, its not important to me if someone is catholic or babtist or hindu or buddhist...but how they stand up for their beliefs is important to mme...i'd like to think that faith is important to someone who wants to be the leader of our glorius nation, and i want them to be strong in their faith, even if it is different than my own.
stand for something, damn it.
excellent post.
indeed, rudy screwed up there. if someone doesn't stand up for what they believe in, they'll fall for ANYTHING.
Good that you're looking at the issues and the candidates.
I'm definitely looking at them and rolling the choices over in my mind too.
I also am praying for Guiliani because I think he is not beyond God's hand on his heart. So often we only judge the candidates based on past records and don't remember that God can change them at any time. I have changed a great deal myself.
I know a lot of people are excited about how well he cleaned up New York City. My daughter and son in law live near NYC and know first hand how much difference he made in that city. So that is the other side of the coin. God can and does use people who are not the best to do great things sometimes. Certainly if the choice were between Clinton and Guiliani I'd choose Guilliani over her blatant humanism.
Even if a candidate says they are Christian or a member of a particular faith, it doesn't always tell you about their character.
I heard recently that every Republican president since Hoover has been a member of the Bohemian Grove, a little known organization with a 1200 acre compound north of San Fransisco. A reporter managed to sneak into the compound one night and video tape recorded the ceremonies there, which included naked men standing around worshipping nature in the form of an owl diety. The "priest" officiating looks like he's wearing a KKK outfit. There are drums and chanting and stuff. Its really really wierd.
Did you know that both Kerry and Bush were members of Skull and Bones? Most presidents and other world leaders are members of either free masons, skull and bones, illuminati, or other secret organizations with occult rituals.
And don't even get me started on the pyramid and eye of horace that appears on the one dollar bill, or all the occult symbols on public buildings in Washington, DC, and on many cathederals and churches all over the world. Did you know that some people believe that Washington DC streets are laid out in the form of a pentagram, or five pointed star, which is an occult symbol?
On another note. As far as your ex goes.
I'd advise you as I have advised my kids. Get busy with something else and don't be available to him when he decides to check on you. If he is "the one for you" he should get to the point where he is sorry that he hurt you and not be glad that he broke it off and only sorry that you are hurting.
Let God comfort you not that guy.
Let go of him and grab hold of God.
Let God fill the empty place in your life with other interests and other activities and other loves.
He can do it.
If that fella is the one for you God will show him and you over time and making yourself more available is not likely to increase the chance of that. It usually lessens the chance. Being too available makes you look cheaper and easier and you want to look valuable and priceless which is how God views you. God calls us his "beloved children" which is not what it sounds like your ex has treated you as.
I think religion (or lack of it) should not be an issue in politics, in any way, shape or form. Politicians should not be asked any questions about their beliefs. If there are issues in the country that are related to religion, then they need to address those in as neutral a manner as possible. But, their personal religious beliefs should never come into play.
He avoids the question because he knows he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
