I would like to add that, to base your life on reason shuts the eye of faith, which causes you to toot your own horn up on a pedestal created by yourself on which you stand, looking down on those who have faith. Religion aside, doesn't that show quite the lack of virtue.
Do most people who shut their eyes to reason still strive to be virtuous?
