For My Good Detroit Buddy :-)
I don't care who won American Idol or what happened to the last Survivor winner.
No, I don't know about the actress who went anorexic or got caught drunk driving without their makeup on or what Britney Spears' latest song is.
I don't have an iPhone, GPS, a Wii, or even a Blackberry. My laptop is over 4-years-old, I have a PS2 (not a PS3), and the last time I saw any type of anime was when I was in elementary school watching cartoons on a Saturday morning.
I don't own any of those sunglasses that cover half your face or a mock-Prada purse. My necklace was a gift from my sister; it's not Tiffany's and I don't care how much it cost.
I don't own a single piece of clothing currently in stores. I'm not going to by an outlandish new trendy shirt because it'll be out of style within a year or so. Yes, I can afford it, but no, I don't like to shop and I am perfectly happy with my old jeans and t-shirts. And, yes, I think your checkered shorts look ridiculous but wear what you want!
I don't eat organic foods to keep healthy. I don't diet. If I want a greasy pizza, I eat a greasy pizza. If I'm feeling frumpy, I go for a run. But I don't run religiously at 6 a.m. every day and no, I'm not going to join that hip new running club or buy a gym membership.
I've never been to a spa. Maybe I'll go one day for the experience. I get back massages from my friends and a mud bath each time I drive my quad through the mud. I swim in the lake (not a pool) and fish there, too! And, no, I don't think that is gross.
I bought my boat brand new. For warranty purposes. Boats break easily and frequently. I'm not trying to display my wealth. I bought my truck used. I had to buy a truck to pull the boat. And no, I don't want to trade it in on a newer one just because mine has over 100,000 miles.
I don't complain about slow service during lunch at fast food places. I've worked there before; I know what it's like. They're probably rushing as fast as they can to get everything done. I won't complain.
I'm a Christian. No, I don't freak out when someone "sins" around me but yes, I let people know when I think they are doing something wrong. I'd do the same if I weren't a Christian. You lie to me, I get upset. You steal from me, I get upset. You slap me in the face, if my reflexes don't accidentally slap your hand away, I get upset. But I forgive everything.
If there's a big, trendy something I didn't mention it's probably because I don't even know it exists. I don't go to malls unless completely necessary, don't watch TV, and rarely listen to the radio.
I like my life. I don't care if trends are passing me by. I don't care if my "trendy" friends turn their nose up on my life and label me close-minded and old fashioned. I don't mind. I still like them.
I'm not low class. I'm not uncultured. I haven't always been the way I am now. But that's where I'm at and it's good.

I like where I'm at too.
I don't have a lot of the newer things either. It doesn't really bother me either. I have never played a Wii...which would shock some people, but I honestly don't know what I'm missing, so I'm fine. :)
I am trying to figure out who this post was written about. I tend to buy books with discretionary money, for I am a voracious reader and video games and things like that do not excite me. But having teenagers I know some of the trends going on and I find that I am ok with that, for it gives me the opportunity to know more to say to those who are unsaved in my life, but I don't desire to necessarily have those in my life.

Now, that's what I'm talking about!
