| | Learning to fly..

There they are! Roosting in the tree near the
nest, in the backyard. They've been in the backyard at one place
or another all day today.
Mama is still feeding them. (I think it is
Mama...) She flies off, and returns in about 10-15 minutes with
food. The babies patiently wait for her return.
They have been roosting on the swingset too, as well as the tree.
Mama has even been back to the nest, and has called to the babies from
there, who were on the top beam of the swingset. Maybe calling from a
short distance is how she gets them to follow her? Since
they move around quite often, they both must be taking to flying
lessons well.
Right now they are spending the hot afternoon in the tree. I bet it is a lot nicer than on that roof!
The field guides say that after fledging, they usually stay around 4-5
days near the nesting spot, before they migrate back to Mexico.
White-wings usually have just one family per season, unless food is
plentiful, in which they may start a second family. (this may be
their second family) It would be neat to see if in a few days
they start a new family in the veggie roaster again!
