 fashion nonsense...
I made my 5th (I think) attempt at fall/winter clothes shopping for the kids today.  I am getting more and more disillusioned with the clothing styles.  The boy's stuff isn't too bad, but I throw my arms up in the air when it comes to shopping for dd.  Take a look at these pants here.  I bet even when Twiggy was a  4T, she wasn't straight as a stick!  The only roundy part of these jeans is the slight bell in the bell bottomed cut!  My girl is on the slim side, but she has curves!  The legs of these pants are too skinny, the legs are too long, and the crotch is too short.  The hipster cut is annoying when you want to make sure little tummies stay warm in drafty weather.

What about the girls who aren't anorexically slim?  What are they going to wear?  No store in town...Target, Wal-Mart, Marshall's, Ross, etc carries any other style or cut of pants.

And I don't want my daughter looking like she is 4 going on twenty-one!

Apparently, sweatpants are not "in" for any girl at any age.  We do sweats a lot around here in the cool weather..they are our pj's, and our comfy warmies.  I thought just about everyone thinks of sweats as a staple.  I used to be able to find pink and purple
sweats, (dd's favorite colors) but not this year.  So we bought some 4-6X Jerzees sweats in the boy's section for her to wear this year.  And these have pockets too! (and they have the added bonus of being just like her big brother's)

Back to the jeans...I did find some that fit dd comfortably.  We like them a little loose in the rear end and the legs and waist.  So if you are still out there looking for jeans for your kids, the best bet we found today was Wrangler Hero loose fit jeans in the boys' section at Wal-Mart.  They have an elastic waist for easy up and down at the potty.  They are androgynous-looking.  And we found some pretty pink jeans with a normally-generous cut...Lee Riders Easy Fit Flare jeans, also at Wal-Mart.  But if your child wears anything bigger than a 4T, then I wish you luck!  It's all Brittney Spears from 5T on up!  What will we do next year?

Girls' clothing is scary -- the girls' section at even somewhere as comparatively dull as JC Penney is full of t-shirts with slogans like "Hot Stuff" and "I love my attitude problem" in even little kid sizes. We've had good luck finding sweats and fleece pants at Old Navy (sometimes in the boys' section) and the Lands End clearance section (can't afford their clothes at full price) so you might check out their websites for some deals.

I was also going to say that Old Navy might be a good place to look.  Good Luck :)

Oh -- and while we're on the subject of kids' clothing rants, what's up with pajamas being super skintight? I realize they're making them "snug fitting" for fire safety, but we bought our daughter 24-month size jammies when she was 10 months old and the cuffs wouldn't even fit over her hands and she looked like the Incredible Hulk bulging out of the arms. I shudder to think at how they would have fit an ACTUAL two year old in the weight range on the label!

Don't get me started on those hipsters. Give *me* pants that fit me like pants should. I'll be glad when that fad is over. Thankfully, I lucked into two pairs of pants recently at my neighbourhood consignment shop that are not only cut like normal pants, but long enough in the leg. I'm not particularly tall, but I must have freakishly long legs, as I rarely find pants that fit right.

And styles for little girls these days ?!? I'm no prude, but somebody should be arrested for wanting pre-pubescent girls to dress like whores. And there are hardly any options. I'm glad I've just got a boy because otherwise I might have to kill somebody.

I HATE hip-huggers and skimpy tight t-shirts for little girls - I have to buy my daughter a 4T in t-shirts because the 2T-3T are too tight - I mean, they are *supposed* to be tight, but I don't want them to be...

Anyway, my advice is to shop for girl's clothes on eBay - Land's End and OshKosh have nice traditional and comfy styles - even Gap and Gymboree, all of which you can find used on eBay for very very cheap.  I've bought TONS of kid's clothes that way.

and your kids aren't even in public school, feeling that fashion pressure.  I dread it, if I decide to take that route.  My little girl still loves her big baby belly.

Ebay has some nice clothes with more generous cuts-if you don't mind used clothes. I actually prefer used clothes because they won't shrink and they're already soft. GAP has a pretty generous cut- as does Hanna Andersson. Those are both brands I can't afford new, so I've gotten some on Ebay.

I need to learn how to sew. Also an occasionl splurge on Oilily- an expensive brand even when it's used- but such pretty fabric!
