Our
city hosts a balloon festival every October. It begins on Friday
morning, with several balloon teams going out to the elementary schools
to show the students the equipment, and actually fly, if the weather is good.
We
had an unexpected front go through the night before, and there were
lingering clouds and moisture in the morning, but the kids and I went
out to the school anyway....and there they were!

It was controlled chaos as the several hundred kids lopped themselves into the basket, and were shown the equipment by the team.

Here's the instrumentation
inside the basket....2 propane tanks, the all-important fire
extinguisher, several altimeters, balloon thermometer, bunches of
release valves...I think for the balloon itself...
The crew decided that it wasn't safe to fly with the weather conditions
at the time, but they did put the balloon up for the kids to see.

Up, up, up!

These guys were tethering
and guiding the top of the balloon as it inflated. Look how hard
the one guy is working! His friend needed to pitch in, from how I
see it. (-:

Ta da!
The name of the balloon and team is FlameBuoyant...oh how I love that
name! They are from Tucson, Az. They gave out these lovely
buisness cards of the balloon in flight...an arial shoot from another
balloon. Here is a shot ds did with the balloon and the buisnesss
card......great idea and shot!

FlameBuoyant also had this prayer written on the back of it's buisness
card...I'll put it here to send out to all the balloonists in the
festival this weekend:
Balloonist's Prayer
The winds have welcomed you with softness,
The sun has blessed you with it's warm hands,
You have flown so high and so well,
THat God has joined you in your laughter,
And set you gently back into
The loving arms of Mother Earth.
Fox and Hound competition and launch from the park in the morning!!!
