| | spinnnnnnn art!
We did salad spinner art yesterday!
We bought a $3 salad spinner and a pack of 4X6 blank index cards.
We brought them home, stuck a wad of modeling clay to the back of the
card, and then stuck the clay-clodded card to the bottom of the salad
spinner. We added random poster paint blobs (and some glitter
too!), popped on the top, spun it up, and.....
Ta da! Oooohs and aaaahhhs all around!
Random inkblots! So tell me....look at this ink blot, and tell me what you see... how does it make you feel?
Here is a sample of the multitude of cards the kids made.
We got the idea from a video we checked out at the library called
Kitchen Capers, with Donna Erikson of Donna's Day. (SInce I have
learned she is a columnist and author of parenting and kids' activities
books) Dd is enthralled with Donna Erikson, who is the Martha Stewart
of kids' arts and crafts...not to mention the most wholesome tv mom magnificent.
Dd says to me (every day) "Mama! Donna's Day (Whom she refers her
by) is a very busy mom! She takes the kids to school! She
goes shopping! She works on the computer!" Dd says this with the
utmost admiration in her voice. I feel like saying back to her,
"Hey! *I* do all those things, too! And I do it with you
kids around 24/7! Donna's kids are in school all day!"
Seriously though, I don't even resent Donna at all for it like many do
Martha. She's just too wholesome and nice...the kind of mom I
would like in my neighborhood.
Donna has a website chock full of kids' craft ideas. You can find this salad spinner activity, and also our all-time favorite activity, roll your own homemade ice cream. Oh yum! You gotta do that one! It involves exercise, so you can work off the calories ahead of time!
