Balloons in the park, part 2: Saturday (last Saturday)
This was the "Oohhhhh" and "ahhhh"  balloon say!  Balloons at sunrise, and then glowing balloons at sunset.  Ds and I walked around among the different teams and balloons, taking pictures.  He exclaimed at one time, "I just don't know where to take my next picture!!!" because everything around us was so exciting and beautiful.  (-:

Here we go.

Another beautiful sunrise morning at the park.  (stretch, yawn, shiver in the late October air!)

New moon a-risin'

Our "Soaring Home" balloon team is out there first, laying out the balloon before everyone else...

Meanwhile, the balloon pilot's meeting is in session.  We overhear that the weather that evening looks absolutely perfect for the balloon glow!  They ask how many teams plan to be there.  Many hands in the crowd raise.  All right!!!!!!!

Ok!  Now it's time to get to work!

Adjust those propane burners!!!

And on with the show!!!

'A noisy, joyful, packing-in of inflating balloons just mushroomed up on the the field!  Guide ropes were everywhere, with people pulling the ropes in teams, as other team members worked hard to fill the balloons, and then tip the baskets to their upright positions.  Spectators were swarming everywhere, shutters were clicking, fingers were pointing, dogs were freaking out on their leashes, and kids were oohing and aaahhhing, or crying at the sound of the propane burners, which could unexpectedly and loudly just light up.

I used a polarizing filter on my lens to reduce the glare and cut the sky haze...hoping to get the true bright colors of the balloons, and the deep, blue sky.  I had fun playing with it...I need more balloons to practice on!  (or perhaps, some fall leaves)

I really like to splurge on photos in here every year at balloon weekend!  Thank you Xanga, for upping the available photo space!

This is the inside of "Soaring Home" as they were inflating the balloon with regular air, using the fan....

Hear strains of REO Speedwagon, "Time for me to flyyyyyyy!"

Ds.....trying to plan his 1000th photo shot, just loving the excitement...

More tomorrow....the balloon glow!

Last year's balloon festival was very different...weather conditions made for some adjustments...but it was very exciting, too.  So, if you'd like to see more balloon pictures, go here
and here  for my entres for last year's festival, 2004.

You always do such a beautiful job with these balloon photos. Simply gorgeous! And when I look at these, I think "Wouldn't it be fun to go to something like this WITH Crunchy and take pictures together?" Maybe someday our paths will cross and we can bust out the lenses for some dual photoshots!

As for the November photo blog along, I'm game if you are! What should we do for a theme? We could do something simple "Autumn in Your Neck of the Woods" or do a wildcard "take a pic of whatever" kind of blog? Lemme know, and we can post the challenge tomorrow and invite people to submit their entries Friday and through the weekend.

Wow!  Those are beautiful photos.  I love the last one especially.  That festival looks like a blast!  I wonder if there's anything like that in my area.  My kids would love it.

I finally tie dyed my shirt.  It's. . . . not great.  The back is more tie dyed than the front, for some reason, and the stains I wanted to get out didn't come out.  Weird.  But the process was fun and I will definitely try again.  The girls want me to do some of their shirts now.

Let's do the "count your blessings" theme this month and announce the quote idea (which I love!) for December so people can have time to start thinking about it, because I think that one's going to take a little time to contemplate and prepare.
