| | Sunday, December 18, 2005 IKEA Guy's Shirt, with final facelift (bleach-discharged black mandala, then dyed, part III)
Here's IKEA Guy's shirt, after a dye bath in red wine-colored procion dye:
I like the blotchy look. I expected some of that blotchiness, because I dyed the shirt using the l ow immersion dye method, as described by Paula Burch on her site. This method keeps the dye bath still (no stirring) during the dyeing process, so the individual colors that make up the dye can play out. And the blotchiness comes from cramming the shirt into the very small space in the dyeing container, so the fabric will dye in a blotchy pattern. Even so, it seems that when a shirt has already been bleached, it takes up the dye unevenly, and also seems resistant to the dye to varying degrees....andding to the blotchy patterning. I like the interplays of the wine-colored dye and the bleached-out drab orange color from the bleaching. it's cool-looking. It's IKEA Guy.
It rained last week! (for the first time in months) I played around wiht the closeup lens..trying to focus on the reflection in the raindrop |
