Oh Happy Day!

Glorious, blessed rain!
(and just in time for San Juan's Day!)

It came out of nowhere!  Not in the day's forecast...but clouds started building in the morning, and made a huge line of thunderstorms for our local area by early afternoon...two weeks before the official start of monsoon season.  It was a real gullywasher...we probably got several inches of rain (and that is a lot, when you only get about 15 inches a year!)
It brought the temperatures down into the 60's (F) in the middle of the afternoon. (had all the doors open! Lots of cloud-to-ground lightning...and by evening, while it was still sprinkling, we were treated to this glorious sight..

Yes, this rainbow is extensively photoshopped.    It took six shots to get the whole rainbow, and then I stiched those together. Then I filled the rest of the picture in with clone stamped clouds and a funky rendition of our front yard tree.  But you ge the idear....

The light at sunset was surreally orange.  I set my camera for ISO 1600 for these shots...no flash.  The colors here are really accurate for how the light was..

And as the sun sunk low out of sight, the rain gently continued....

I love thunderstorms.  We haven't had very many this spring.

I know you don't get them very often where you live.

What great pictures! Yey, Rain! I love rain, even though I live in Seattle. Rain in the summer is so rare here. What a gift!

We had some terrific thunder and lightning yesterday morning. Looks like it's clearing out.

Have a great weekend!

Beautiful pictures...what type of camera do you use? We have been in a sort of drought here. No rain, making the grass dry and the trees are loosing there leaves, turning yellow and falling off the trees.

WOOOHOOO!!

That was an AWESOME storm! We got a great view of the lightning show coming out of Bisbee around three. Not as much water out here in the boonies as it looks like you got though. Still, the smell was *wonderful* and it lasted through the night even. Heaven on Earth.

Lovely cool rainbow shot. Stitching is fun. :)

We also got that eerie orange flavored light. I only wish I'd had the presence of mind to go outside and capture some myself. I'm glad you did though. Love the pine frond shot.

Hey, next time you're going for an evening shot with color, try tapping down your ISO to 200 or so, bringing your appeture in to about F8, and accomodating your light with a longer exposure. (Use a tripod.) You will capture some GLORIOUS sunsets that way.

Monsoooooooonnnn... HERE WE COME!!!
