 Leafy Peace

It's done.  Phew!!!!!!  There were a few starts that needed to be folded back up into the symbolic clay ball, ready to try it again.  Photoshop also gave me some trouble....deciding to close without warning..wether my work was saved or not.  (so I saved with nearly every change!)

The leaves are scanned images of the actual leaves we've collected on two hikes.  Those doves there might look familiar to you if you look at my banner up top there.  The butterflies are from our trip to the butterfly garden in October.  All in all, there are nearly 200 layers (200 individual photos) put together in this collage.

I used a peace symbol image as a template.  I arranged the leaves over the top of the symbol, and removed the template layer when I was done.

If you'd like to see this collage larger, go here to view it in my photoblog.

I have been reading some interesting information on the origins of the peace symbol.  Here's a brief, yet comprehensive historical review.  It was designed in 1958, by a British artist, Gerald Holtom.  Mr. Holtom was a conscientious objector during WW!!, and stated that the original meaning is nuclear disarmament.  It was used specifically as a symbol for the antinuclear movement, but has gradually taken on the meaning of "peace" in general over the years.  It has been used widely during many worldwide  political conflicts since 1958.  Some American fundamentalist groups claim the symbol is older, and is satanic in origins.

I don't personally have attachment to the peace symbol, but I object to those who take it's meaning out of context, and go to such great lengths to spread inflamed attitudes and misery.  Peace is a revered universal wish and prayer, especially at this time of year.  My wish is those who have their own biases be peaceable and let it be.  There are many other things that actually matter to get fired up about.

I think I'll do a leafy collage with the "om" symbol next.  That resonates deep peace for me as "Peace". (with a capitol P)

Beautiful!  It took me a few extra seconds to make out the peace symbol.  I like how you added the doves.

It's wonderful!! I love the magenta leaf at the upper left and the blue green one on the upper right. You didn't stick those in a vase with food coloring did you?

That is very cool! Did you read about the woman who had a peace wreath on her front door and was asked by the neighborhood association to take it down!? Crazy!

Thanks for the props on the paper chain! I AM getting ready for a party! You're more than welcome to come ... and I wouldn't refuse the coffee if you brought. I have a pot of Major Dickason's brewing right now!
