 A photo-a-day: Lovie Dovies

This pair is probably siblings- they are young white winged doves, most likely born this summer.  They are perched together on a branch of the sycamore tree in our front yard, not far from another branch that supported a nest of a white winged dove family in early June.

We watched a white winged dove family very closely several years ago, and photographed their family life from nest-building to fledging, and beyond.  If you are interested in seeing that,, go here: "Photochronicle of a Dove Family"  in the archives of this blog.  We learned so much withthis family!  We got out several books from the library, and learned quite a bit about these birds, but we mostly learned by watching them.

What I really love about these birds is how loving they seem to be.  Both parents lovingly tend their babies.  They all- parents adn siblings alike, seem to show real affection for each other.  The siblings remain together for quite a while after the fledge- the parents continue to feed them and show them the ropes for several weeks.  BUt even past that period, the siblings seem to just pal arond together for a long time.  You can often see a pair (or sometimes more) plopped together on a fence or tree branch, just hanging out together, sometimes preening themselves and each other.  That is why I am guessing the two in this photo I took this morning is a pair of siblings.  Birds of a feather!

Lovely! They look like siblings -- young and maybe (judging by the fluffiness?) not quite yet fully adult feathered. Beautiful capture!

Great shot! I love their fluffy chests. I bet they are sooo soft.

How do you like the book you are reading? (Is it the second in the series?) Is it as good as the first? (Did you like the first one?) I've only read Book One so far.

I'm really enjoying your photos a day.  I would participate, but I feel overwhelmed.  Maybe another month!  :)
