Yes...SIblings Without RIvalry is helping....at least, helping *my* perspective of the kids' dynamics at this point.  I haven't done anything with what I have gleaned so far from the book.  I read this book a few years ago...so I could be prepared for the inevitable.  Ha ha!  SO the inevitable is here, and I've forgotten most of what the book contains.

What I have learned so far is that we must let them get their feelings out before they bottle them up, and stifled feelings start coming out as behavior and emotional problems.  Let the feelings out, but they can't hurt anyone by displaying anger.  SO there is the the showing them how to express their emotions in a healthy way.  THen there is the attending and responding to their feelings too.  Some basics.

Subject change.  Ds wrote me his first note today.  His first note ever...the first time he put letters together to form words without asking me for each letter...the first time he put words together to communicate something.  Phew!    THis is what he said:

Der Mom,
I wat som mney

So he's asking for money.  A universal request for kids of their parents at all ages, I guess.  I'm not complaining, though!  He's on his way!  He's getting it.....

Ahhhhhh  !  How perfect.  I think I read that very same book.  I've blocked out a lot of those years, though.....   [only kidding, it wasn't that hard...

I've started telling my son that I don't want to hear his tantrums, and I don't.  I suppose I should tell him to go express his anger in private?

HAHA! Smart boy!

My son's early writings were all intended as jokes. He'd write something and ask us to read it out loud and then laugh and laugh. His very first sentence was "I poop". Since it was his very first written sentence ever, all his grown-up acquantences would take it from him and read it out loud and he'd get the joy of hearing a bunch of grown-ups have potty mouth.
