           Trip To London, England

The trip to London from August 14-21 was edifying and I thank all who prayed for me on the journey.  The travel portion was pretty much the same as usual except for the trip back going through security at Heathrow Airport.  If you can imagine a line ('queue' in England) at an airport that goes all the way out to the parking lot where it snakes around even on the asphalt then you can picture the situation on Monday.  But the long line didn't cause me to miss my flight to America, and I tried to always be thankful in spite of some tense moments, like when the perturbed guy behind me in the queue said he felt like hitting someone ... and I was as close to him as anyone else   They patted me down twice before I got on the plane; a personal record.  We were delayed enough at Heathrow that I missed the connecting flight from Chicago to St. Louis, but that was ok since there are several flights per day on that route.  It was nice to be back in the USA where not only my wife and children live, but where we know how to speak English.

I was able to speak for the brethren at King's Cross on the 20th, and also attended their Bible study on Wednesday evening.  Five Yankees were in attendance there on Sunday, including Jim & Janie, a nice older couple from KY with a noble last name - Ward.

We had an encouraging Bible study with Robert & Gigi Wanasen, and fellow Filipina Sister Lourdes, on Saturday.  Also on the 20th, we met with some of the members from Wood Green in the home of Rosalina De la Pena.  Please remember them all in your prayers as they try to serve the Lord in England.

Here are a few pictures of the trip for your viewing plezhah ...

The Rosetta Stone -

The Key to unlocking Egyptian hieroglyphics

The way it works is that the bottom is written in Greek, the middle in Egyptian, then the top is hieroglyphics - kind of like a parallel Bible.  Since we know the Greek and the Egyptian match up, then the top language can be translated.

It's in your Bible .....

Sennacherib, King of Assyria, preserved his capture of Lachish, a city of Judah, for historians.

(He would have liked a Jerusalem room, but God didn't let him have one of those. )

This portion of the panorama shows a Hebrew family being taken prisoner by the cruel Assyrians.

Thanks to Jeff Allen of Nixa, MO, for stirring up more interest in the subject of the Assyrians.

Mighty hunters before the Lord ...  hmmm

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed a taste of England!!

Whilst surfing the net, I encountered a tasty summary of a trip to London. Very nice and all-encompassing. Glad for your trip and glad you're back. I suppose you had to throw away all the hair gel in order to board the return flight?

I had to save that laundromat sign for my British sign collection.  The best one I saw was at the exit of the Globe Theater: "Please respect out neighbours by leaving quietly."  I also liked seeing your pictures of the museum.  I was mainly looking for the items on the list that our professors gave us and anything that I knew from art history, so it's good to see some of the things I missed.

Chocolate biscuits.  Yum.  I'm glad you got back safely.  Your story of the guy wanting to hit someone instantly reminded me of when Drew Wilkie punched me in the back of my neck one time because the teacher decided to reverse the order of the alphabet when we walked in from recess.  Location, location, location.

Glad to have you home, Tommy.  Excellent pictures.  I couldn't help noticing the small living spaces our brethren have.  I noticed how the closet is right up against the wall, and also the neat blue storage thingy by their phone.  What an unusual phone too?  Well, no more complaining from me about where to store our huge collection of BOOKS attractively, yet efficiently!  At least we have more than one room!

Mmm...a "savoury snacks" aisle, complete with "crackers and crispbreads".  Great array of pictures to summarize your trip.

So I wasn't the only one throw for a loop by the chocolate biscuits sign in the supermarket.  Glad you cleared that up.

Great post and pictures.  It's nice to have faces to go with the names of the English brethren.

Interesting post and pictures.  That's pretty good how you did the last photo.  I posted this as a comment on my site but thought I might post it in a couple of other places. . . Do you or anyone know "a young man named Sean from Dean Avenue who is going to live in the Itasca area?   We had this young man today at church services . . . I didn't get a chance to talk with him, but my dad said he did a little and the guy said he was from there and would be here a couple of years (I think) to do some training.  Anybody know him???  If he is from there, I do hope he will attend at Itasca.  And if so I guess I will learn more about him later on. . .just curious to know what family he comes from"
