| | I got Starbucks this morning (thanks, kiddo). Starbucks always makes the morning good. There's something about a Venti latte at the perfect temperature so that I can drink it without burning my tongue that reminds me of God's love. It's so good, and yet so completely unnecessary. We didn't have to have coffee, yet we do. God loves us, and puts things in the world purely to give us pleasure.
Anyway, this is a poem for all the girls out there (you know who you are) who are refusing to stir up love until its time (Song of Songs 8:4). A while after I wrote it I realized how much it's like the parable of the Wise Virgins. So then I had a title and a context for it. I hope it helps:
The Wise Virgin Matthew 25:1-13 I will not throw my love away, Waste it spendthrift on every Blue-eyed jackanapes that comes along. I will not bleed my heart dry, Yearning for affection from oblivious men. I will store up my tenderness in a treasure house of gold, String sweet sighs like pearls on silken cord, Lay my longings away like velvet cloaks in cedar - fit to keep a loved one warm on a winter night. And when at last my Prince stands before me, The one to whom my King leads me by the hand, I will have a lush dowry to bestow. I will spread my riches out before the throne, and say, "This, my love, I saved for you - Take it, with my heart."
