| | My life has been very interesting lately. I seem to end up playing a lot of cricket. Which, for those who don't know, is like the British version of baseball (and boy, wouldn't any real British person get steamed if they read that!). My friend Troy got hooked on Indian movies last winter (we've created a monster!) and figured out how to play from watching Lagaan. So Thursday night after CL he was teaching some of us how to play out in the parking lot behind Panera using a wiffleball and bat. It's a lot harder to hit the ball with a skinny little wiffleball bat, let me tell you! My friend KJ and I mostly stood on the sidelines and talked, and only fielded the ball when it came directly to us. Which happened more than you would think...
Last night we had the going away party for Friar Mark, who just left the Air Force, and will be joining the Franciscans in Cincinnati. He's a good guy, the solid kind who is infinitely reliable. He will be sadly missed. However, he did let me take my pick of his books before he packed them up (that vow of poverty and all), so I now have even more books that I'll have to find room for on my shelves. My summer reading list is totally covered now, thank you!
At the party we played cricket again, out in the street. This time I participated more actively. I really enjoyed it, but I got tired of missing the ball so often. Though even the athletic guys were missing it just about as often - cricket batting is totally different from baseball batting. We've decided that we are now the Dayton Street Cricket Association. We may even have t-shirts made. Maybe. |
