Do you know how hard it was to get early tickets to see THE ROCK in that darn movie???  Let's just say this...I didn't get to drool yesterday...... So, hopefully, by next weekend the theatres won't be so uhmmmm 'packed.'

We spent the day...the cooler part of the day anyway (after 3pm) cuz geez it was hot yesterday! (92*)...driving around looking for some family fun.  And you know what?  This town sucks!

Now, I don't really want to make our area sound so, so, so boring...but for families looking for something to do....well, what else can I say about it?

I mean, we used to have this waterpark...which went belly up after only 3 years here. hmph!  The profit ratio just wasn't happening according to them....(bad business runners I truly believe).

Then we had a Mountasia park...(go karts, mini golf, batting cages, arcade) and that recently went belly up too...after about 10 years here.  more hmmph!

And theeeeeeennnnnn, we had a drive in theatre here too.  It was great! Had been around since the late sixties.  And just this past year, it was bought out.  I mean, we used to go there every other weekend!  No worrying about the shhses and hushes...no expensive theatre junk food...(you could carry your own food in there)...and best of all...there was just something about watching a giant size screen outside while the fresh air breezed past you.  *sigh*  Now that is all gone too.

So basically, the only good family places around here are: 1.  eateries....(that's a given 2.  the movie theatres (meaning when a pg13 or less movie is going on) 3.  the local museums and libraries 4.  the beach (which is about an hour away)  5.  the bowling allies (which caters to family nights usually on week nights here)  6.  the mall....(i need money)..:-D  7.  the raceway...(not open at the moment) and 8.  baseball games...(times and schedules vary and just this season)  oh yeah, and the parks....but mosquitos have invaded us down here...so..ixnay on that till the mosq's go away)

Hmph.  So there we were driving around for over 2 hours trying to figure out what to do next after we ate at the Golden Corral.  (incidentally, i overheard the convo of the waitress and some kids sitting next to us)..(her:  are you two twins? how cute! who came out first?  twin #1:  my older brother!  he was refering to the oldest child about 3 years older than him!  how funny and smart is that?!? )

Drive, drive, drive.  Boredom, Boredom, boredom....it was already 830 pm and still nothing exciting going on just yet.

So we ended up buying movies and watching them at home.  Anyone have any other ideas?  We've done a lot of family things...including painting together, catching ball outside, walking in the park, fishing, board games, swimming, birthday parties...it is just I realized we are limited here as to what we can do.

I'm curious...what kind of family outings/places do you have in your neck of the woods??

In case you are wondering....this is where I live...look for the city called Edinburg.

Oh boy, we don't lack family entertainment living in the big city as we do.

You need to start your own business catering to families with the same problems you are experiencing...giving them somewhere to take their kids for fun!

Hehehe...I should blog about all the stuff here...but this is a tourist tra...town, and so there has to be stuff for people to do. We have a zillion golf courss, two big amusement park rides places, the whole Atlantic ocean, plus stuff like Ripley's Aquarium. It's a "let's go do sumpin'" kind of place!

I checked your map... how far are you from the Gulf?  It's always a good time to go to the beach and let the kids run for the day. especially now that the tourists have all gone home.

We don't have that much "Family stuff" here at all. It's a beachside town with tons of shopping (UGH!) and not much else. Have to travel 100 miles to do Bush Gardens or Cypress Gardens. *shrug* We are boaters... fishing mostly.

There is not much at all in my actual town for kids and teens to do.  However, just a short drive into Cincinnati and you have every means of entertainment known to man.  A little longer drive in the opposite direction takes you to Dayton, where the Air Force Museum and other adventures await.  We have amusement parks, water parks and all sorts of things to do within a short drive.  There are a few minature golf courses in the neighboring town as well as a multitude of bowling alleys.  We live in movie mecca since the two indoor theatres are less than 2 miles from our house and the drive-in theatre is the same distance in another direction.  We have a wonderful art program here and there is a Y on every corner it seems.  So aside from the rednecks who live in my neighborhood, I'd say it's a pretty family-friendly place to be.

Hey, I used to live in Edinburg.....Virginia.   We don't have much here either for the whole family.  If you are single and like to drink, then this is the perfect place!  There is a nice place right down the road from me for families, it's called "Jammin Gym."  It has all kinds of games, two indoor roller coasters, and a bunch of stuff for kids.  We also have a bowling alley and a drive in theater. I guess there are a few things, but most of the families end up at the mall.

HI there cynthia......the movie was GREAT:) You will like it....I will say no more about that, LOL

Here in Halifax/Dartmouth there is not a whole lot to do except in the summer, then the waterfront springs to life and the Public Gardens and Citadel open up.

There are the usual things: food, provincial parks (if you can tolerate "Are we there yet?"), camping, movies.....but the unique tourist-y stuff doesn't happen until the summer. I am eagerly awaiting Buskers which happens ever August for two weeks and attracts hundreds of Buskers from all over the world.

we have alot of places for family outings! Putput golfing, go karting, Saga City(HUGE HUGE indoor arcade), Chucky Cheese! do they have those in the states? restaurants, movie theaters, drive in movie theaters, alot of fesitvals during the summer, alot of picnic areas such as Sunny Brook park, Centre Island, Edward Gardens...museums, amusment parks, fairs...wooo! the list goes on and on! Atleast you got to do something as a family! And the best part is, it was in your own home! You can get up and go grab some food without having to worry about bothering anybody, laugh all you want, talk, etc...I hope you had wonderful night!!

Cheers,
silly_boy

I'm not much of a WWF fan but my daughter is crazy about the Rock too. I was going to say come visit me and we'd go to the Riverwalk and the zoo and Schlitterbahn and fishing at Calaveras and then I'd come visit you and go to the beach, but lord, hon, you live way down there in southern Texas. It's too hot for me that far south. I was guessing that you lived around the Houston area. But if you ever take a notion, you can still come up here.

We have a huge adventure park thingy about 10mins away.  The biggest slippery slides.. all different sizes and shapes.. and lots of big swings that go in all different directions..  AND it's ON the beach, with a big BBQ area and grassland to play ball if you like, AND it's completely FREE!
