| | I ran my first experiment today. Things went mostly as planned. I got
ketoprofen crystals but they seem to have a relatively large size
distribution. I'll have to run the experiment two more times under the
same conditions to be sure. So it looks like I'll be working in the lab
full-time for the next few weeks.
There's a new person working in my department who shall remain
anonymous. S/he seemed pretty cool when I first met him/her but
now every time I say hi to him/her s/he sort of gives a me this
suspicious/dirty look which is annoying me. What makes it worse is I
run into him/her all the time when I go out - in the street, at the
supermarket, at mass. I guess it's good that this happens because I'll
just have to deal with my issue(s) with him/her.
Last Friday I was telling Jenn Toh about my Asian food shopping in
Paris and she said, "Forget Asian food. Learn to cook French food!" I
thought that was a good idea so on Saturday I went to the green market
in town and bought way too much food. So far I've made sausage with
ratatouille, flank steak with a bordeaux-mustard sauce and chicken
breast with sauce suprême. They tasted good I guess, but not great.
I'll need to keep on practicing.
I don't know how or why but I've lost weight - at least an inch or two
off my waist. Didn't know I had an inch or two to lose but I have to
wear a belt these days otherwise my pants will slide off. I thought I'd
gained a few pounds by now after stuffing myself everyday but I guess
I've been walking a lot too. I don't have a bike or a car and walking to the town
center takes a good 25 minutes. Maybe my French cuisine will fatten me
up again.
As promised, useless random facts: bavette = flank steak, andouillette = sausage made of hog intestines (but still really good)
