 Kids..babies..

Haha surprise surprise!! :) This might probably come as a surprise for you lot cos it's been a while since I last posted something :) Just felt like I had to cos I haven't been able to get on MSN and hence haven't been in touch with anyone since last week.

I've been in a place in Wales..(hmm should I bother with the name)...called Abergavenny since last Sunday. I'm doing my paediatric block at the moment so I'll be here for the next 4 weeks. Although it's just about an hour away from Cardiff, I chose to stay on site cos commuting everyday would not only be tiring but extremely costly as the price of petrol is about a pound per litre now! Crazy.

This is quite an ulu area, the hospital is surrounded by hills and cows. Haven't seen any sheep yet tho but I'm sure I'll be able to find some if I look harder. So there's nothing much to do here except to be in hospital. The room that they gave us is excellent but there's no internet there and it's really quiet. No distractions tho so it's a good place to study but I think I'll go bonkus if I stay in my room for a long time.

Monday was the first time I held a baby who was 14 hours old and it was just amazing. Had to do a newborn examination on him to make sure he's ok before being discharged. I really didn't know how to handle a baby..they look sooo delicate..but actually, they're not as delicate as they look. Just make sure the head is supported :) My favourite bit was to test the sucking reflex. Just stroke the lower lip with ur little finger and that will open his mouth. Then insert your little finger into his mouth and touch the hard palate and then he'll automatically suck your finger. Really nice feeling..hahah. Anyway, I've just been getting used to speaking to kids...don't necessarily have to act stupid but it is a skill that I need working on :) Changing nappies is still quite tricky..trying to dodge the projectile piss of a little boy is quite a challenge but so far, it's been really enjoyable. Didn't know that I'll enjoy doing paeds so much actually..oh well.

Anyway, I'm starving now so I'm gonna shoot off to warm up some frozen ready meals. Grr..don't normally have them but I can't be bothered to cook in a foreign place :)
