  • Myanmar Cyclone Relief Fund

    http://cyclonerelief.wordpress.com

    http://helpinghands4ng.blogspot.com

Those two are some of the groups I know that are working on the field for cyclone relief.

    http://www.google.com/myanmarcyclone
Google put up a link to this at its front page saying "when you donate on this page, Google donates too. We'll donate up to $1 million to help organizations provide relief." Many thanks to Google, and by linking up with UNICEF, which has a presence in Myanmar, I'm sure that they'll do their best for the aid to reach into the hands of those who need them the most.  (Despite what some news sistes are saying, "Google.com" is NOT banned in Myanmar. It's only Gmail that is banned.)

One of my online friend, Ko NLS, also wrote in his blog that he will be going to Laputta (a city in the Ayewaddy delta) and donate to the people there personally.

At least, there are people out there doing their best. Soon... I will be a part of this effort too.

I know that there are news reports saying that the aids are not reaching the desired destination and ending up in markets, but I would hate to see the aids stopping because of this. Let's say $100 is donated, and let's say, $50 is not received, but the other $50 will still go there, so it's better than $0.

Hi Dawn:  You said in your last post that weather warnings are unreliable in your area.  A post on Google news only 45 minutes ago my time (3:30PM on May 14 in Taiwan) warns of another possible cyclone coming to Yangon.  Here is the link to the info:

Hopefully you'll get this and can at least prepare your family and neighbors if this is the case.

    Be safe!

Thank you for he relief URLs. Please keep track of the storms. The weather off the coast is not yet another storm but please pay attention- http://www.solar.ifa.hawaii.edu/Tropical/tropical.html. It is not on the chart yet and the storm over by the Phillipines that does show is very weak so the new weather now is a "disturbance," not yet a storm.

cyclonerelief is not working right now. I emailed them to tell me when they can get donations on line again.

That's exactly how I feel. Even 10% of donated money goes to the people, even if it buys a grain of rice, a cup of water, that still prolongs a life or give a child another day to live.
Have you heard about google's matching donation program? Google will match dollar to dollar of the donated money up to $1 million if you donate through the site to UNICEF and Direct Relief International: http://www.google.com/myanmarcyclone/
Please spread the word as this method double your amount of donation as google is matching with its money. I know UNICEF has physical presence in Burma, so at least some children will get some help.

Kudos for your effort to get involved. I wish the best for you and your family as well as all in Burma. Our time has got to come now.

@awoolham - Oh yes. I forgot about Google's effort - It's really nice of them to do this.. that's why I'm such a big fan of Google! :)
@cafengocmy - yes, they're having problems with Paypal right now, and they're resolving the issue. Also thanks for the future storm warnings.. A bunch of us MM internet users are also keeping track of the weather via satellite pictures and weather websites too. :)
@amitofo2006 - thanks for the warning too :) I've read that post and alerted the people I know. Thank god that it was just a depression, and have gone away now.

A friend of mine in Taiwan is experiencing that right now. She started a fund-raising group at her university for the cyclone victims, but ever since the news of aid being stolen by the junta, she says that the rate of incoming money has dropped drastically. Everyone is concerned about their money not getting to the aid victims. Plus, the earthquake in China has gotten its share of attention from would-be donors.

Well, usually I don't comment in your blog because English is not my thing, but I red all yours posts. So

I'm  just too happy because you and your family are alright. Are you
going to help people in Ayeyarwaddy Township? then be careful for all the
diseases, you should watch for your health too, and keep strong! It´s amazing that you're willing to do such dangerous help, so please be careful!

    besos!
