What a week!! But at least one thing happened that I'm happy about.  You may remember that our oldest sheppard died not so long ago, and he was part of the family, and excellent protection.  I really missed him terribly. We'd had him since he was a pup. I really didn't think I'd ever feel the same way about another sheppard, but:

I got a new dog, and yes, I know I said I didn't want any more dogs. BUT this one was dumped off and in really bad shape. He is a german sheppard, but his hair is kind of long.....sort of like a collies, but with sheppard color and markings. More black than tan though. Part of his left ear is missing, and he was filthy but we cleaned him up. It's really strange too. Usually any dog we go near will automatically take to Doug first. I imagine that is because I have a certain fear of all dogs until I get used to them. Bad past experience.

But not this one. What's even stranger is that I wasn't a bit afraid of this dog. I walked right up to him when I first saw him. Now generally I would never go near a sheppard that I didn't know. Especially one that was half starved. I'm not THAT crazy! But for some odd reason, it felt like we already knew each other right off, which was a good thing because two minutes after we met, he was all over me and wouldn't leave my side.  He really liked me. If Doug called him, he wouldn't move, but if I did, or even if I just started walking off, he immediately followed. He even growled at Doug once. lol!

Now,  even when he was dirty, I thought he was purty, but both Doug and Amber say he's really ugly. He's not though. He has a black face so he looks meaner than most sheppards. Kind of like a wolf, Doug says, and so that's what I named him. Wolf. So we now have a new family member, and I'll try and remember to take some pictures of him soon. See if you all think he's ugly too. Mean looking maybe, but ugly? Never!

Maybe he was abused my a male at some stage. A friend of mine adopted a german shepherd but he kept growling at her husband... eventually the dog attacked him. I hope your new pooch settles down soon.

Wolf...that's a good name. There ARE long coated German Shepherds in certain bloodlines...and they are VERY wolfie looking...my ex in laws had a pair of them. Hope to see some pics!

there have been stories similar... i remember one about a woman who had lost her cat - it died (can't remember the cause)... one day a stray turned up at her place... she took it in, and it 'hugged' her the same way her old cat did... the spirit of a previous pet? reincarnation? who knows... all that matters is you have a new family member. hope he likes home as much as you do... and i hope he takes care of you

I've seen pictures of collies with that coloring. Is his nose very straight & narrow, & does he whine like my dog Lady did?

maybe that dog was on the brink of death someplace and your dog that died helped keep him alive so that he could find you and you could both be happy ...either way its just great that the doggie found you and now can live a long and happy life with love and kindness :)

I've known a couple of really sweet, if very territorial, shepherd-collie mixes.  I look forward to pictures of your Wolf!

Make sure you call the dog by his name when strangers are around...LOL....and it should be Wolf, not Wolfie. LOL. Wolf sounds scarier.

How exciting for you and Wolf!  I was at a very low point mentally and physically a couple years ago and felt I really needed a little dog.  Wanted a small one so I could pick it up, bathe it, etc., with my limiited hand/arm strength.  My daughter's boyfriend's family had a few litters of chihuahuas, but something always happened to prevent me from getting one of those.  I decided to go to the local animal shelter with my youngest son.  We didn't find any dogs there that hadn't already been spoken for.  As we were getting ready to leave, a woman came in carrying a female jack russell terrier in her arms.  She was an animal control worker in another area but had found this dog in my shelter's territory.  She couldn't keep her, the people at the shelter did not want to put her in the general population as they were afraid she might get sick.  Everyone was cootchy-cooing her, but they were unable to come up with a satisfactory foster placement for the little dog.  I looked at my son, he nodded, and I said "I'll take her".  We put a found notice on the board (the shelter people wrote it up because I was crying and couldn't write at that point anyway).  Only received two calls - one person looking for a male beagle, the other person looking for a lhasa-apso.

I have had my Lucie for a little over two years now, and she is MY dog.  Stays by my side 90% of the time, is  not hyper with me as JRT's are known to be.  She waits until she hears her daddy pull into the driveway and goes running for the door.  She wiggles and wriggles and licks him like crazy.  I can't play with her much, but daddy can!  I truly feel she was sent to be my very special companion, who loves me just as I am and takes very good care of me.  I think you just found yours too Debi!  Lotsa hugs - Shari & Lucie Lou
