Yet Another Pet
This is Ben with his newfound pet.
Yes indeed, if you look closely at what he is holding, it IS a snake. Now I know that I was real cool and all, about Charlotte, but this is definitely crossing a line here, folks! Somebody, anybody, offer some support to me. Please!

The boys have decided that it is not a garter snake. The garter snake variety would be considered harmless. And harmless equals boring around here. We can't have that. So. They are frantically perusing our reptile books trying to make their snake match something dangerous that Mom just might believe.

It has already escaped once in our basement.
Oh, the longevity of my longsuffering.
And under the circumstances, that sentence is not redundant !
But Grandma, if you are reading this, please know that we will have an adequate containment system in working order WAY before you come up to visit next Wednesday.Way before. I. Insist.

I love this picture of your son. With his carhart jacket, camo hat and pants, and a snake in his hands. Now that's a REAL BOY! I'm noticing everything in the background, too, is this your property?
There is a line...there is a line...we are amazing mothers but there is a line!!!!!
I must confess that I, too, brought a little snake home to my Mom once upon a time. Our reception at the front door was, ummmm, less than welcoming. And she certainly didn't rush for the camera!!!
Loved your post!!
I remember when I was a kid the family across the street had snakes in their basement. But it was not on purpose, and they called an exterminator. I don't think I could condone such a thing! Besides, my cat would probably eat it.
If you still have it the next time we visit, though, you know my boys will love it!
Snakes! In houses! Hummmmm. It does bring back some memories of big black snakes that would find their way into our house when I was growing up. We lived in an old house along two rivers. Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooh.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment! Spiders and snakes, oh my! You are a longsuffering mama! I really enjoy your writing style!
What a true-to-life farmboy story!! When we still lived in Canada, we had an old farm house with a very damp basement. Salamanders lived down there. Our son would go down to play with the "sizards". What fond memories your post has brought back, thanks!
I love your spirit. I am afraid that my fear would be stronger than my faith when it comes to snakes.
Boys will be boys. I love to read your post. I think you are a great Mom.
