Some people are so lucky and dumb, I feel a visceral *need* to smack them.

Not as strong an urge as, say...my ongoing fascination w/ breaking a mug full of hot coffee over Tim Robbins' smugly face, but, yeah...it's been a long night doin' taxes for stupid people.

Sorry, I shoulda made you guess.

Also, I hate the world!  Ta da!

Just kidding.

Sorta.

No, I really am.  I am actually in a jolly mood.  Just a bit taxed.

Ar-gar-gar-gar-gar...

Has anyone been reading The Golden Compass, our de facto bookclub book o' the month-like-period?  I skipped the official vote due to lack of interest.

What did you think?  I finished it about a month ago, but Steve has been reading it at night until I fall asleep (which takes about two minutes), so it has taken him considerably longer, in small doses.

I Iorek Byrnison.

It's an odd book, I think, but infinitely creative and engaging.  I'm not in love w/ the characters--I don't feel an urge to adopt Lyra, and, in fact, I would probably keep my kids away from her, if at all possible.  But she's quite heroic and I admire her.  I admire the way Philip Pullman (was that his name?) painted these characters and I'm looking forward to the next book.

For now, though, I'm looking forward to BED.

Night, John Boy.

Thanks for the CPA reality check... of course I would never discount the *gotta work your ass off* part of being successful!!! ... your post about sleep reminded my of my girlfriend who just had her third... she asked me to call her three times yesterday because we needed to set something up and she kept being interupted by kid things and she finally said... call me at NINE when the kids are IN BED!!! Ha! So I did... and her hubby told me she was passed out COLD and all three kids were still going strong (I could hear the baby screaming in the background)... when I spoke to her this morning she said she forgot that we even spoke yesterday at all... now that is sleep deprivation!!!

I really enjoyed "The Golden Compass" and the other two books in that trilogy.  Very thought-provoking, esp with issues relating to God and organized religion.  Philip Pullman wrote another series, The Sally Lockhart series which is really good too, but entirely different from Golden Compass.

I didn't realise, but I think the book is called Northern Lights over here, in which case I have read it. And found it rather bizarre, but interesting about religion etc. Will you be posting some questions on it again?
