I’m pretty new to this whole blog thing, and I’m not yet familiar with proper blogger etiquette. So I’m not sure if it’s considered gauche to blog about your own blog.

So please, under the excuse of ignorance, allow me to spend a few paragraphs blabbing about my blog.

I was thinking about why I bother to spend time blogging. Is it for the uncensored self expression? Sure. The sense of reaching out to others? Perhaps. The thrill of having others read what I write? I’m definitely guilty of that.

But recently I noticed that I do something peculiar with my blog, and I’m not quite sure what the motivation is.

I go back and edit my old entries.

I don’t rewrite or change content and meaning (although I once removed a posting all together), but I make teeny tiny changes. A word here a phrase there, edits that no one would ever notice.

I’ve edited postings that are weeks old to make them easier on the ear, even if the only ear it reaches is my own.

The only post I’ll never tamper with is my first one. I want to keep it as is. Besides, it still holds up pretty well.

There, that’s it. A boring blog entry, I know. But it was just a little observation and this seems like the most appropriate place to share it.

b) I, in the past, have blabbed about my blog endlessly.
c) I like to privatize old entries and just leave up certain posts to, you know, create a mood or something.
d) If all else fails, create a manifesto. I did. (link)

ha- those Hlavacs are on FIRE today...

I have also at times gone back to edit my old entries- it's the little bit of OCD I have shining through... and I find no harm in it- it's the inner peace that it creates that makes it worthwile. Not quite perfection (obviously) but a complete thought being expressed *more* adequately (and in a way that doesn't make me cringe when I see "MISTAKES")

and I can also say I'm guilty of erasing (quite a few) old blog entries. It was being abused and as a punishment I deprived my public of the chance to read and re-read and tell their friends... that was mostly for my own piece of mind- it had been read, the harm had been done, you know?

So my final comment is: the blog is selfish in a self expressive way, and therefore like a medicine for your soul... or something like that. Should've just left that one off- oh well, soon it will be out of my hands. Which also feels pretty good

don't we all blog only out of sheer selfishness? Isn't this quite the validation that total strangers find your life so interesting that we are compelled to read about it daily?

I only correct misspellings. And occasionally I'll change a post from "Public" to "protected" or I'll make "private" posts open to the public. Changing a post is like getting a tattoo lasered off. Don't do it, man!

And yeah, we're all attention whores like that.

Thanks for stoppping by today and giving a few "sunsets"! Joel, as a non-denominational, pastor is great and growing more and more popular. I attend the live Lakewood Church service via the internet every Sunday morning, and I grew up in the Christian Church.

Hmmm, I've never given much thought to my old posts. I may look back and say, "why on earth did I write that?". Oh well, I guess in my mind, what is done is done :)

I'll be back for some more reading ;)

as long as the meaning isn't changed....I used to keep journals as a kid. After awhile, I'd go back and read what I had written. One time I came across a journal that I had written at a very 'dark' time. The memories were still too fresh and I ended up ripping it up and throwing it away. I thought I would never want to be reminded of the past. I now consider it one of the things I would change if I could go back in time.

This post reminds me of something ...

There is this one person, on Xanga, whose blog I read and sometimes I'll comment, but when I go back later, I find that she has changed the post completely. So, there sits my comment and it doesn't even apply, in any way, to what has been written. Aargh. Now THAT makes me crazy. I often wonder if she's just trying to get on Featured Content.
