  • Being in a long distance relationship is like having your birthday fall on Leap Day. You spend most of your life waiting and waiting to see that special person, which results in a slower aging process of your relationship.

Ex. Elizabeth was born on Feb 29, 1984. Cara was born on Feb 28, 1984. Although they are scientifically the same age in 2008, Elizabeth can claim she is only 6 years old.

Ex. Elizabeth is involved in a bicoastal relationship for one year. Cara lives with her boyfriend for one year. Although Elizabeth has dated her significant other for 1 year, since they have only been on 12 dates, she can claim that they have only been together for 3 months (1 date per week, 12 weeks). Cara however goes on an average of 4 dates a week, so if the same calculations are used (1 date per week), they have been dating for 4 years.

Therefore, being in a long distance relationship may be hard, but the flipside is that your relationship may have a prolonged freshness that prevents it from reaching its expiration date.
