TROJAN HORSE and a DOUBLE AGENT?

since rumours started to circulate about Ezam's impending return to UMNO, till today, the Malaysian political blogosphere has been abuzz with lots of talks about Ezam's move...

i liken this man's move to Dr Chandra Muzzafar, who was used by BN during the pre-Mar08 GE to destroy Anwar's credibility...

i too, am still very very very puzzled...earlier this year, i put up a very brief blogpost about my admiration of this man, and his potential to be a future leader...that was the impression i had of him based on his efforts during the Ijok by-election, and through his capacity as founder and head of GERAK...

however, developments over the last few days seem to throw a huge question mark over this man's credibility and wisdom...many political observers will remember that Ezam was the man who compiled a 600 page report detailing evidence of corruption pertaining to some senior minister in the cabinet...Ezam has also been involved in many anti-corruption initiatives...in the past, he has been known to attack many UMNO leaders...to a question in the past if he would rejoin UMNO, he implied in his answer that the idea was remotely possible given his attacks against UMNO...

i don't understand his move now...he was dedicated through his independent body GERAK to fight corruption, UMNO was supposed to be the enemy...the PM didn't even bother to respond to his 600 page compilation of evidence, and it is clear that the government's talk of anti-corruption reform is only empty rhetoric...so how can he now say that he is attracted by Badawi's intention to reform the ACA? Badawi has always spoken about anti-corruption pledges and initiatives, but why only now be attracted by this proposition...and why rejoin a party which has not shown the political strength to deal with the evidence he had submitted in his 600 page compilation?

the move to rejoin UMNO is a strange one...UMNO is the embodiment of cronyism and corruption, yet this chairperson of GERAK is joining UMNO...i still can't get my head around it...

anyway, this leads us to wonder, was EZAM a plant, or a trojan horse in PKR all along? was he just like Dr Chandra Muzzaffar, a former top PKR leader who quit PKR only to turn on Anwar? is this what Ezam is about to do? is he now following the footsteps of the pointless Dato Nallakarrupan? was he put in place within PKR to destabilise PKR? this sounds difficult to believe given Ezam's background in the reformasi movement, and his close affiliation with Anwar. but why the sudden change of heart? we know he had a fallout with Anwar and Azmin, but we still do not know the nature of the fallout.

until then, the political blogs will be full of speculation...i thought he was wise...to rejoin UMNO for me is the worst thing a reformasi idealist could do...was he tempted with monetary rewards or promise of top ranking positions within the government?

anyway, we can only speculate...the deed is done as the press say. i wonder how many more trojan horses and double agents sit within PKR...
