Consistency

see relatedI really don't care which side of the issue you come down on. But I ask for consistency.
The call for consistency comes as the Schiavo case is all over the news. I hear the president talk about the "sanctity of life" and it sounds good. But then I ask if there's consistency across the board and I don't see it. Congress can't seem to do anything notable other than parade baseball players through hearings, but they sure as heck seemed to stop the world to "Save Terri." So this congress is pro-life right? We have Congress up in arms over this one life and yet they ignore the thousands that die every day needlessly from starvation. I believe this is "selective-pro-life."
Yet at this very moment while Terri deteriorates because a feeding tube was removed, we have hungry people in America. Men and women in America are living off of cat food in order to survive! Where's congress? Oh, that's right... they're busy spending our money on Iraq. Where by the way, we killed quite a few people and tortured some others. Where's congress and their cry for the santity of life?
I don't understand how people can be pro-life and pro-death penalty. We call one murder and the other justice. Consistency? I don't get how we care so much for a starving woman stuck in a vegetative state and yet so little for quite normal, healthy kids who will starve. Consistency?
And I'm not some flaming liberal democrat. Republicans seem to be acting more like democrats lately with their inconsistency. All of a sudden they want the government to step in over state's rights. So much for that small government that's hands off...
Fickle. That's politics, and that's people. There's no consistency. We are a nation of walking contradictions. God bless America and screw you.

and we talk about consistency....for a mans word to mean something, for his thoughts and actions to coincide, for his ability to reason to a point of benificial movement...we talk of consistency...yet we cry for life, for the suffering child, the starving mother, the murdered father.....we cry to belong and fight for another....
hmm. this case bothers me extremely. i believe in the sanctity of life, yet i also believe in quality of life. you may think it contradictory or inconsistent, but i cannot help thinking that this woman should have been buried in the cold ground fifteen years ago. i watched this case deteroriate between Sean Hannity screaming at a Democrat who voted against 'getting involved' because he does not have compassion for a woman's life. Sean Hannity said that he was compassionate and that he cares about everyone. heh. rewind. Sean Hannity supports the War in Iraq. rewind. Sean Hannity is in favor of the death penalty. They say that taking this woman off the feeding tube will cause her great pain, but i disagree. She is in HOSPICE for christ's sake, not a hospital.
Hospice basically makes a patient as comfortable as possible before they die. they shoot them full of painkillers, etc. She will not feel a thing. also, she will not die in thirty days because of hunger. she will die in four to seven days due to thirst. fifteen years IS SUFFERING, in my opinion and there is no quality of life to show for it.
her husband is not a 'horrible secularist' who commits adultery and wants his wife to die so that he can access her life insurance. i believe he is in his right state of mind.
the parent's are NOT. i know that no parent should ever have to bury their child, but surely they understand the difference between quality and quantity. THEY ARE INSANE. they are clinging to a vegetable because some voice in the sky tells them that she will fully recover. Their faith is causing this woman to suffer, not doctor's orders.
This is not murder. This is separating individuals' rights from the church and the state.
The family will be medically paying off her debts until they die, because they were selfish enough to keep her alive.
Let go. Let go. Let go.
People die.
this is a private family affair that has turned into a media circus -- by her PARENTS.
why should we even have to watch this on television. this is sickening. they will show a vegetable, yet they will not show the caskets of american soldiers? They will show the DEAD BODIES of Saddam Hussein's SONS on television, but they will not investigate, PUBLICALLY, the Abu Ghraib tortures.
heh. sorry. touchy, feely.
America, the christian nation run by fundamentalist pharisees has no moral judgment whatsoever.
...maybe Jesse, lazarus1719, should run for President next term. *snickers*

hmm...good thoughts and rantings.
i wish those in and of themselves were enough. i know they aren't because i'm constantly thinking or ranting and nothing changes.
yes: humanity (me) = walking contradictions
Thank you, I thought I was the only one feeling this way. Its good to hear others say the same thing.
p
y'all... heh...
and
NO! no i do not make out with girls.
I can certainly always count on a debate here. Though I must say it's been a long time since I've actually visited your site.
I cannot believe you don't see a distinction between executing convicted, violent murderers and the killing of unborn children. It is not an inconsistency to support the former and not the latter; I'm all for consistency, but perhaps a little nuance might be the order of the day as well.
