WE'RE PARTIALLY SWITCHING TO WINDOWS COMPUTERS

Windows has a lot more software choices than Mac in general.  When I went to Europe, I wanted to have the webcam instant messenger on MSN, but it wasn't available on MAC.  So I got this teeny tiny "Averatec" WIN laptop and I really began to like it.
Then as I started to use WINDOWS more, I started to like WINDOWS more.  LIke one thing I am very huge on is scanning.  I scan everything.  Receipts, FedX shipping things and then we shred whatever we scanned, so I have my entire filing cabinet on whatever laptop I travel with.  It's awesome because I can look up anything by doing a filesearch.  Then Visioneer stopped making Mac scanners - and additionally they have new software that scans directly to text-searchable PDF - this is amazing.  So I have the new Visioneer scanner which can stack 50 documents and scan 20 pages per minute - insane.
I need to have my mail scanned for me because my mail comes to Los Angeles, and I am rarely in Los Angeles.  So the mail gets scanned, goes into a secure hard disk that we have here called "filing cabinet" on a fixed IP address and I can then "see" my mail anywhere I am in the world.  Isn't that cool?
Mac still rules the world for photos/music/video.  I am a freak for "GarageBand".  The real reason I shut down the forum is because I am having so much fun with my little recording studio that I have totally dropped the ball on everything else.  Maybe later I'll play something for you that I recorded.

It's OK Gary! Walk toward the light! All will be fine. LOL

I've been using Windows for some time now without any problems. On a G5, I still experience program shut downs . I'm not fond of that. Melissa must have shown you that her laptop works just fine too!

Enjoy!

Ok guys, time to bring you back to reality. Wait until you have a problem......takes a rocket scientist to troubleshoot. Don't mess with the registry or you'll hose the entire hard drive. If you ever network them with Macs......good luck at setting up PCs for networking. It takes an MCSE engineer to set them up and keep them working.

I worked for a studio for two years in S CA that had seven PCs and then I plugged my eMac into the system. It was when OS X first came out and SMB first was first available, you plugged in your Mac and it showed up on the network! Try that with a PC! We constantly had configuration problems and try adding perifpherals to a PC. A nightmare.

I've used Macs since my first 512k Mac Plus in 1984 and never have and never will use PCs. Gates has everyone under his thumbnail and loves to control the world of computers. He's put almost any smaller company out of business that has tried to compete with MS and if they have an innovative product, he buys out the company andy cannabalizes it for MS own benefit. Also, if there's a product that's better than something MS has, he buys out the company and shuts down it down.

And Gary, how would you feel if I made a product that you put on portable strobes for diffusion, instead of a white sphere, I made it a rounded square, sold it for 9.99 and called it the 'Flashsphere'? If I had 20 times the assets of you and decided to do this, who do you think would win? Does this sound like what Mr. Gates did when he stole the Mac GUI about 10 or so years ago?

I just don't like his style of business or his product that has no standardization which allows 3rd party developers to creat products that work on some PC's and not others.

Ok........I will go back to paper and pencil if Apple ever gets bought out. Microsoft shouldn't rule the world.

Just to let you know, I'm passionate about two things in my life.......Macintosh computers and Canon digital cameras. These are the only two things I can get obnoxious about.

Sorry about the double post, I hit the back button after posting and thought I could edit it and repost. Didn't happen.....sorry. Gary, please delete the first post as I meant to have 'Mac' about networking and not 'PC'.

Hey Pep - I've noticed that only MAC people have this double-posting problem. JUST KIDDING.

No I am painfully aware of how sucky the networking is on a mixed network. At Pictage, I was the only guy who had a Mac - and they had to install an appletalk driver or something everywhere so I could talk to the network. So that is not going to be even possible in my scenario. We are going to be using a rented remote storage drive to hold the documents. And once we get configured that will be when my docs are all in PDF format.

I am not abandoning Mac. I love them. I have sixteen of them. I have just one WIN laptop - but I have to buy three more for my office. But that is because of this software package not available on WIN that we all need to use for my e-store.

When it comes to making movies, or music, or editing, Apple is the best by far. When it comes to scanning documents, Visioneer is the best by far, and they don't support MAC.

Oh P.S. about Canon cameras? They're ok - but Fuji rules! (just kidding Pep! I use a 20D)

Gary - what about virtual PC?  I used this when I was in school when it first came out.  Aside from it being a little slow (in the very very first version, and just a little) due to running both windows and mac os on 1 machine simultaneously with the "back then" specs (blazing fast G3 processors lol) it was pretty sweet.  This may solve your problems and save you the $$ of buying 3 additional PCs...

Don't go back to the dark side....

Ok Gary.........now you know how to retaliate!!!! LOL Just say you don't like Macs and Canon's, and I go into Mr. Hyde mode!! Just ask Tim Walton!!!! He' my best bud in S. CA. and we've known each other since I did he and Deb's wedding 23yrs. ago.

I sometimes get persnickitive (sp?) about PC users. The thing is, I've never met a MAC person that hated their Mac and I've met very few PC users that love their PC. Why is that?

I liked the idea that the aforementioned Tim had. Use Virtual PC. Since I don't think scanning is a huge processor intensive task, you could probably get by with it.

Also, sure hope me going round and round about scientology wasn't the forum killer. I liked how you had everything there and particularly the relationship part. I've been single 12 yrs. and ready to give up.....I need a 'younger' mans ways on how to rope in those 'younger, more intelligent, talented, and with a brain' type of woman! Seems like the ones around my age (51 on the 4th) are all wounded beyond reapair!!!! LOL

Hey, I've got an idea....you and Melissa can have a 'lonely hearts' seminar and be the leaders on love and romance!!!!!! LOL

Oh yeah I love Virtual PC. I have it on my laptop and it's great. But hooking hardware, etc. is kind of weird. And it's slow.
