I have a friend named Jeff Gold.  He is honestly one of the few generational super-geniuses that come along every once in a while.  We met at UC Santa Barbara when he was 15-1/2 years old and a student in college who spent about 10 minutes per class studying for tests.  He lived downstairs from my apartment.  During that time, he appeared on the covers of Newsweek, USA Today, etc. as one of the original computer "whiz kids".  By the time he was 16 he had already become a millionaire with his product, "Rubik's Cube Unlocked".

We've been friends ever since, and he lives in Georgia where he is one of the most innovative conservationists I've ever met.  We talk a lot about the state of the environment, and he taught me that global warming didn't just mean higher temperatures, it meant greater temperature volatility.  And this, from what I know about speciation, is really not good news.

He told me that computer models predicted a class 3 hurricane or higher EVERY WEEK through the Gulf Coast by the mid century (2050) and DAILY by 2100.  I remember thinking - wow that would render the place uninhabitable.  Now, only about a year later, it seems like as soon as the residents unpack, they have to evacuate again.  I have so many friends in Florida - what are your thoughts?

(Mark 13:8) 8 "For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, there will be earthquakes in one place after another, there will be food shortages. These are a beginning of pangs of distress.

(Luke 21:10-11) . . ."Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; 11 and there will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another pestilences and food shortages; and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs.

But this is good news not bad.

Wait, what does this refer to? When photography went from film to digital?

erikprosser is pointing out one possible explaination is that the rather extreem weather conditions that we have been having the last few months could be the fulfillment of prophesy in the Bible. I have to admit the weather conditions have been rather strange. If this is indeed fulfillment of the words of Jesus in the Bible, conditions will probably get stranger still.....(Luke 21:25 & Mark 13:24-29)

It's about time the Americans did something to help with the global environment, and help towards averting these extreme weather condidions.

What type of action can be taken to avert a class 5 hurricane? (just curious...)

America notwithstanding, our biggest problem is when China becomes industrialized. There are a billion rice farmers who have yet to fire up an automobile, and it won't be long because I remember not that long ago when everyone was riding around on bicycles and wearing chairman mao outfits. Now China just completed building its first commercial jetliner.

They have very very little regard for the rights of others and I have no doubt that they're not going to be careful with emissions either.

Even if the world completely stopped emissions, according to an article I read in Scientific American, it would take about 200 years to reverse the global warming effect. With China coming on board it's going to go nuts.

If prices for oil skyrocket, then emissions will go down, but we are so dependent on oil.

I love the comments section - I can write whatever I want because nobody reads these!
