 EYE SURGERY PROGRESS REPORT!!!!

OK this is so weird but today we went to "The Devil Wears Prada" (arrrgh) and I could see everything crystal clear and sharp!  Also - get this - night vision had NO halos, and seriously the night vision is better than I've ever had!
Also - and this is mysterious but I can see close things without correction!  Like I was getting to that age where you need reading glasses when I was wearing contacts, but I can totally see and read at close distances without any strain.
My eye surgeon Dr. Shealy said that he thinks all Lasik machines are obsolete since he got this allegretto wavefront epi lasik machine.  I'm starting to agree.  Since there is no cut to the cornea, it is hardly invasive at all.  The recovery time adds two days, but now that this is behind me I am really starting to be amazed!

ok I have to ask.... how much does using the wavefront machine run vs standard lasik? and what are the possible complications? I'm pretty sick and tired of wearing contacts too, but I'm freaked out about having any kind of eye procedure done.

i can't say because I promised the doc i wouldn't, but it's reasonable. Not much more than regular Lasik. How about roughly the cost of a Canon EOS1D Mark IIN.

Hi Gary, I heard that Tiger Woods had Lasik and then had to learn how to hit the golf ball all over again because his vision changed. First of all I don't know if that's true, but if it is, could it change a photographer's vision on seeing light? Let us if you see any difference after your next wedding!

Is he the only Dr. doing that or are there more around the US?  Sounds pretty cool.  I want to hear the answer to Beth's question too, because that is a HUGE concern I have had, having to retrain myself how to "see" again!  Glad to hear it went so well for you!

List price or the actual price you find at say.. B&H? ;) Thats not too bad... I was thinking it was going to be double or triple regular lasik or something. I'm guessing as more Dr.s move to the wavefront machine the prices will drop. I remember when regular lasik was unbelievably expensive! Thanks Gary!

it is very reasonable. I don't know the list price at B&H for a camera but I do recall the first number is a 4 or 5.

Once this haze is cleared up in the center (when the cells grow back) you will simply see things crystal clear and sharp, close or at distance. If Tiger Woods had to readjust, maybe it's because wearing contacts is more uncomfortable than not (you know they shift around in your eyeball) and not knowing the sensitive nuances of world-class golfing, maybe that's what he means.

Advanced surface treatment bypasses the known issues with Lasik (like halo-vision, issues with night vision) aren't a problem with this treatment because it doesn't cut the cornea.

I did a search on the internet and found a few more in the U.S. - he told me that there are four in canada, one in Georgia and one in Michigan that I know of. It is very important that they do a holographic study of your cornea before doing any cuts. That's a biggie.

Welcome to twenty-twenty vision, Gary. Now you can be a landscape / wildlife photographer, in your retirement! Hehehe...
