DAY'S ADVENTURE: YOUTH, PREACHING, LOVE...AND A FUTURE PASTOR'S WIFE?

Pastor Rich (my former pastor) asked me last minute to preach at his church this Sunday afternoon because he was down with the coughs and was having a hard time even talking

I preached on the topic of Self-Deception in regards to the Intellect and Sin based upon Romans 1:18 through 23

starln_e0.gif

Its a small church plant, with five active members including the pastor! But today, the Pastor's fiancee and her two sons were there as well

And I bought along in my car my girlfriend, my sister and a friend of hers

I was really moved when Pastor Rich said he has prayed this Scripture over me:

12Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.

(1Timothy 4:12-13; NIV)

After service, we ate Dinner and we had a good talk/friendly debate/fellowship about Theonomy and a bit about Dispensationalism

And my biggest joy this evening was seeing my dear girlfriend ministering and loving my sister's friend; I am so afraid for this little girl and just the effect of her damaged family and just what the future holds for her

To hear Rich critique of my sermon and hear his encouragement about God calling me to be a preacher was overwhelming enough...

But tonight, to see my girlfriend being so ministering...

Though she's still young

I was like,

WOW, TONIGHT I CAN REALLY SEE HER HAVING THE "STUFF" OF A PASTOR"S WIFE!

THen came home and I continued reading and working through the doctrine of God's Common Grace

I love how faith meets truth and the intellect meets living life for Christ!

Once in a while we are granted a bit of foresight and perception to see both the beauty and the potential in others and it is marvelously encouraging.  Hold on to that gift!

Thanks for your comments on my site, and the link you referenced.  It peaked my interest but the amount of material (and its organization) is a bit daunting.  I'm going to have to absorb it in small chunks.  However, I'm delighted that you shared it with me.  I really appreciate it.

Hmmm, this teaching on "total depravity" is a tough one (for me). I wonder if some of the answer/understanding about it can be found in understanding why mankind is lost in the first place. It is NOT a sin issue, right? Jesus eluded quite clearly to that fact when He had His discussion with Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who should have understood, but didn't. "What must I do to be saved" was his question to Jesus. Did Jesus respond with 'believe in Me and all your sins will be forgiven"? No. He went to the heart of the issue..."You must be born again." So the true reason why we are lost is not a sin issue...it is a birth issue. Of course we see a Jewish religious leader not understanding, so why should mankind understand; but that is not an excuse for not seeking to understand. You must be born again! And, being "born again" what does that entail? I wonder how many of us truly understands or rather believes in full what "salvation" truly made us?? Thanks for getting me thinking along these lines.

Being a MK, twice , due to death of father, I can tell you the choice of a wife for a pastor speaks much of one call and his seriousness of the call.  I know many a pastor whose ministry was harmed by the wrong choice, it was always a stumbling block.  I know others whose were greatly enhanced by their choice. Pastors must first be the priest of their home and to their wives and have a godly woman who never overshadows her husband.

I answered in a non-answer to your comment, but would pleased to follow-up on it if you had further questions. In expounding, I have seen many ministries limited on their scope of effectiveness because of particular views that may be secondary rather than primary .  Got to run. John

WOO HOO!

That's our Nancy for you!!!!!!!!

Jimmy I think that's great.

about Godric, that book I was reading-- it's about the life of a guy recognized as a saint... basically telling his side of the story and how dreadful he is, and how he isn't what everyone thinks him to be. It's Derek's favorite book and I am enjoying it tremendously.

Yes Jim , I worked very hard for the title doctor but I value the title brother far more because not of anything I did but what the Grace of God did for me !

Being a dentist is just a ministry that the Lord led me to just as others He leds me into . I would leave any of them to go where He leds me next , but for now this is where he has me .

I am very happy you can see the hand of God building your life before your eyes . Many can not see because the look in the wrong direction .

God bless you as he unfolds your life my brother !

Your welcome and thanks for your comments.  My friend, ECDPilgrim, has tied the arguments of Part 1 and 2 of the church/state series together quite well and poses some interesting thoughts and comments on this subject from a different and provocative angle.  Check out his post at http://www.xanga.com/ECDPilgrim/506749527/item.html   John

I'm so glad that you were encouraged by Pastor Rich. I have sensed in you a big desire to be in some type of teaching/preaching ministry, and the verses he prayed over you, I just prayed for you as well. God bless you, and have a wonderful week! Oh, and may He have His will in the lives of you and Nancy, too. ~ Love in Christ ~ Carolyn
