AM I NORMAL?

I saw a segment recently on Rachel Ray, and it was all about whether a person's quirks were considered "normal" or not.  I decided to evaluate myself, and here are a few I have come up with....

FEET
One of my pet peeves is to see others touch their feet.  I once watched a Bible Study leader cross his leg (in the usual manly fashion), then he commenced to rub his hand up and down the bottom of his shoe.  He then used his pen, rubbed his nose, etc.  He lost me right there.  I could not even hear what he was saying, because I was too grossed out by his actions.

I saw a commercial recently....a very cute little girl about 2 was playing with her mom.  The little girl was laughing and giggling, and it was a very sweet and endearing commercial.  However...I can't tell you what the commercial is about...because I can't get past the fact that the mom is kissing the bottoms of this little girl's feet!  This cute kid was certainly old enough to walk...and mom was kissing her feet?

I rarely touch my feet.  If I could go through life without touching them, it would make me happy!  I have this "thing" about germs, and feet are one of the worst places for them!  My feet get hot and dry so I put lotion on them at least twice a day.  But I do it without my hands touching them.  I put a dab of lotion on the top of my foot and use the other foot to rub it in.  I can even get in-between the toes using this method.  Then I put a dab on the second foot and use the first one to rub the lotion in.  Anytime I put on socks, shoes or tie my shoes, I have to wash my hands afterwards.  (Shoe laces have been known to hang and drag in some pretty disgusting places...like some of the public bathrooms I have been in!)

So, I ask you...is this normal?

FRIENDS
My best friend is the Tide Stick.  I ask you...is this normal?  (Click here for the rest of the story.)

CRYING
I cry every time I watch "Little House On The Prairie".  Very normal you say.  But....I start crying at the opening credits when ma and pa ride up in the wagon.  I ask you...is this normal?

KID STUFF
I find myself anxiously awaiting the next episode of "Strange Days At Blake Holsey High" on the Discovery Kids channel.  I also love to read books from the children's section of the library...The Great Brain, Miss Charity Comes to Stay, Family Shoes, The Bread and Butter Indian. etc.  These are books I read when I was in fourth grade, and I have read them over and over and over....I would almost rather read kid's books than "grown up" books.

I ask you...is this normal?

WHAT'S THAT I SMELL
Ever since I was a kid, I have loved the smell of stale air...especially when it comes out of a window unit air conditioner.  That and the stale air smell that comes out of a car air conditioner when it's first turned on.  Once again I must ask....is this normal?

ODD MUSIC
What kind of person would play a midi file of "The Lone Ranger" as her background music on her xanga?  I ask you...is this normal??

So, what IS normal behavior?  When does behavior move from being ordinary and normal, to weird and abnormal?

I ask you....are YOU normal?  Am I?  Is anyone ever REALLY normal?

You Are 55% Normal
While some of your behavior is quite normal...
Other things you do are downright strange.
You've got a little of your freak going on,
but you mostly keep your weirdness to yourself.

Your post made me smile. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that neither of us are probably considered "normal" BTW, I not only cry on the opening credits of LH but on West Wing too.

Its normal to you. That is all that matters.  God has made each of us different. So we are all normal in our own unique ways.

Besides, normal is just a setting on a clothes dryer....

One of Patsy Clairmont's book's titles is, "Normal is Just a Setting on the Dryer."  That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

You and I could never be together in the evening when I'm winding down for a good night's sleep.  Here's my routine...take vitamins, brush teeth, wash face, get into jammies and then massage my feet with a Homedic heated massager...it's the most relaxing thing I do for myself!  I look forward to that part of the day all day long....Hi Ho Silver!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Well...some of that doesn't sound exactly normal....I mean, crying at a Hallmark Commercial has GOT to be normal, but crying at Little House On the Prarie?  It's been a real eye opener to me how many people are not..normal that way.  Stale Air? That's another interesting one. About the feet, I think it's perfectly normal to be careful of germs, but your precautions are on the wrong thing.  I remember reading about a study of New York toilet seats where they cultured them and a lot of other things for germs.  Money turned out to be the biggest culprit.  Filthy Lucre is an apt name indeed.  And thanks for the hot tip on the Tide stick.

I hope I am not normal, and I am terrified of revealing this to you, but probably our hands have more germs than our feet.

Oh my Gosh, I LOVE feet! Especially baby feet! I kiss 'um, rub 'em on my face, take pictures of them ....... I love feet. Toes are so cute. I will have to say that I only like cute feet, I have seen some ugly ones and I want nothing to do with them. I hate wearing shoes. Would go barefoot year round if I could, well, not in public restrooms, but, is that normal? I don't care. It is the way God made me and I am going to enjoy feet. :)

Loved all your "normal to you" quirks! They made me laugh, a lot at myself mostly!

I worked with a nurse in labor and delivery who was grossed out by feet.  Often, we'd have to support the feet and legs of the mom's pushing and she would GAG if she had to touch a foot, she'd even wrap a sheet around the pt's foot to hold it lol!

Stale air?  Hmm.. I like the smell the first time the furnance kicks on, reminds me of winter.  I like the smell of new plastic, how strange is that?  I like your abnormalness, you are one funny lady!  Happy Valentine's Day!

I say "get your freak on". I've got a hand washing thing and I carry the hand sanitizer in my car my purse, put some in my hand and rub it on the hand rail of the basket at walmart etc, but guess who doesn't get sick, ME!!!! And, excuse me, but I rarely shake hands with (sorry male readers) Men. How's the grand baby, is the newest addition here yet. I'm way out of touch. Catch me up, or tell me which day of your post to read for that info.

Funny post...and I'd say you are as "normal" as the rest of us..except the foot thing is nearing the "over the edge" limit....

Happy Valentines!  Now touching the bottom of shoes is really gross.  Touching the bottom of my foot doesn't bother me, I know what's on that!  LOL

I have that "feet"thing too - - they are down there - probably not clean.  And whenever I see folks with a pen in their mouth. Do they realize where it has been? In their hand. And where has that been? ew!

A very close friend of ours practically breaks out into a cold sweat just thinking about anyone touching anyone's feet! The thought of a thread stuck between toes sends her to the asylum! At the risk of  dating myself now, I used to cry at every Lassie show I ever watched. When you ask? At the final credits with the Lassie theme song playing when Lassie all of a sudden held up her paw!!!LOL! I'd say you're very normal -ha!
