Some Week

Our bathroom is a shambles - the shower has been out of comission since Saturday due to our remodeling.  At least I can take a bath, not that it's much fun in the condition the bathroom is in right now.

Jade's boyfriend broke up with her and her little heart is broken right now.  She has a lot of hurts and questions, especially since he's being cruel for no reason.

The studio is too loaded with stuff right now to take studio photos - Will is building us a shed, once that's done we'll have our studio back.

Peace!

Maryland make-up artists and models wanted...

This is the note I've put on Myspace. Please pass the word along if you know anybody who is interested, short, tall, old, young (18 or older please) skinny, fat, whatever.

I am looking to begin a project on faeries and elves - which I will be working on all summer long.

I need volunteer models (you get a copy of the pix on cd so it's for trade work, some people call them "test photos" - I keep the rights and you have to sign a release) and you can use them on your website or portfolio.

Normally I'd just do the make-up, but I thought maybe there were some make-up artists out there who would like to try some outlandish things this summer and do some fantasy make-up for my photos (feather eyelashes, sparkle, jewels, really magic) - you'd get a cd of the photos to use in your own portfolio and credit on my website.

My old photography website has been taken down and I am working on a new one - it will be at http://photos.allzah.com.

My new art site is up (but this design is already being remade to integrate with the new fairy site I am working on) at http://art.allzah.com

My old arts and music ezine I used to run is where you can pretty much find out info, see what the studio looks like and get news as to what I'm working on and it's at www.allzah.com - this site too is being re-designed.

While all of that webby work is going on I want to be taking photos too!

I am looking for faerie models of various ages and sizes - please feel free to send me some info about yourself - if you are interested. Time is flexible for me during the summer - I prefer to start shooting a couple of hours before twilight since that is when the most magical lighting occurs.

Peace,

Heather

A Very Faerie May

I've been in a VERY FAERY mood because of the fairy festival coming up - here is the info:

Maryland Fairy Festival in Upper Marlboro

Jade and Will are going to be there, some of Lene's art will be there (don't know if Lene will be there - I can't ask Will right now, he isn't home) and we'll be selling our art, photos and crafts at the festival. It's Allzah's first time vending at a festival, so wish us well! This is a great family event.

The festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21, 2006 10 AM to 6 PM

Patuxent 4H Center, 18405 Queen Anne Road
Upper Marlboro, MD 20774

Admission is $3 for children 3-11 and $7 for those 12 and older.

I also saw A Midsummer Night's Dream at Port Tobacco Players : www.ptplayers.com which is still running for two more weekends, so go out and see the cute faeries and all the Shakespeare magic if you can.

So with all of that FAIRY energy about me I wanted to try something creative I've wanted to do for a while.  In fact my first "fairy photos" were taken over four years ago, but back then I didn't know much about Photoshop, so I'm going to try my skills at combining the two.

I hear boys like girls with skills. Oh...no...wait a minute, that's girls like guys with skills, so I don't have anything to worry about.

Anyway, as part of my fairy photography experimentation I have taken a few photos of my lovely daughters. Yes, Mrs. Barlett has some lovely daughters...lovely daughters...

I dragged them out to the studio Sunday when it was all gloomy and stressy and decided to have some fun. I experimented with different camera settings - some failed MISERABLY - and lighting - some of that turned out pretty good. I took some simple shots of them in simple clothing - just some beige vintage slips - and shot with one light for that "night time" effect. I thought of doing them in sepia, but I liked how they turned out.

The idea is to take these photos and add a background of some sort - a very fairy setting, lighting effects courtesy of my Photoshop plug-ins and see what I can come up with.

This is just a couple of them, I still haven't decided which ones of the bunch I will use, these are just an example.

I'll keep you posted as to how it turns out!
